right i know alot of you on here would already happily take me outside and shoot me for painting my e30 in satin black but in truth the car was far from mint to start with.

anyways.......

Right ive had a few e30's now inc 2 genuine tec2 sports and always fancied the idea of doing a pickup truck version for the reason being i love pick up trucks but in the uk we didnt get any decent ones till recent and even now the ones one get are normally diesel.

so do i chop my e30 coupe into a pick up?? rear wheel drive straight six pickup rightness. its been done a few times before and is pretty straight forward, just a case of having the balls to chop the roof and obviiously then weld in appropriate strengthening and a bulkhead behind the front seats. my mates garage has a jig so keeping the car square throught the process wouldnt be a problem

done a quick poor vmod of my car............ opinions please

It needs a matte black roll bar/lighting thing behind the cab.
Pretty cool as it is. I didn't like pickups until I saw a VW Caddy (is that the one?) in the metal.

You need to use a 4 door as you need the front doors to be shorter.... Imo

Do a Tech 1 pick up winkeye

There was a post up here a while back where some matey had welded the 'C' pillars to the cab which looked ok'ish but then painted it Rainbow colours

Do it Paul, Nelly on here has a Green Tech 1 saved on file winkeye (But it is based on a 3 door)

OB i know what your saying about the door length but i think the bed area looks too long on 4dr conversion due to the shorter cab area.

dunno, its something ive always fancied doing but taking the grinder to it and actually doing it is another matter. maybe a winter conversion, i feel i should probably enjoy it as it is for now

Good point about the door length, I see what your saying...

There seems to be an influx of Caddys round here all of a sudden, some nice bits of kit too :D

Wouldn't it be best to base one of these on a cabrio as the shell is already re-inforced in many ways for the open top? You want it to drive around corners too I assume.. lol

Some one did this to a 4 door in total BM, cant remember what issue but i know the car was yellow, will have a look through my libary and find the issue, I know you need to put a fair bit of strength into the shell after you take the roof off and a rear window needs to be cut/made, check out this page tomz for issue. :D

i've seen a few of these now, and they never seem to look quite right.

i think it's the rear pillar which never seems to sit at the right angle compared to something which actually started life as a pickup. can't see an easy way to solve it either as the door follows the shape too. i guess getting the rear bit of a proper pickup from a scrappy and chopping it to fit your bed and roof. and then altering the rear most part of the door window surround to match would look best, but then you'd also need custom glass, and the project suddenly gets a whole lot more involving, difficult and expensive!

would be the only way to get it looking factory imho.
cheers,

harry

Hiya budz, as promissed , have a look at total bmw issue 64, feb 2006 for details on this conversion.

qoute from bloke who built it - " I've heard of three others in existence, two of them were scrapped because the chassis twisted"

Hope this helps!!
