Just seen some 7.0x17" rims very interested however.... im not sure if ill need spacers... can anyone recommended anything please...

Im also making up space under m3 arches so im lookin to get the wide look!

you'll need a lot of spacers! ET40 will probably scrub on the inside on the rear!
12 - 20mm spacers needed to get back to where you should be, more if you want them sitting out a bit.

if you space it this much, you will need proper hubcentric spacers. unless the wheels are something very tasty, i'd not bother and get something that fits better

Nowt much to add! You want to be aiming for ET24 (stock) to ET20 ish for standard E30 arches - even they'd look lost on an M3. ET40's really a non-starter I'm afraid...
