just tried spraying the bumpers lachs silver
unfortunately it seems to be showing through the black spekles very bad, so much so that it has that 2 tone quilted look you get in woods etc.
such a shame as the spraying seems to have come out really well as in nice and even no runs,
doing somehitng wrong with the paint or mix?
can anyone give some advice
what is the procedure for spraying- is it : primer - base coat - laquer??
if so how much hardener goes in each of the 3 mixes?
also do i have to snd right down to the primer again now that i am painting them again - or will a quick run down in 320 then a quick run down in 800 be enough prep for them?
thanks
difficulties spraying lachs silver, please help!!

what paint are you using first off? Is it 2 pack or just basecoat with solvent thinners and single pack lacquer?

If its all 2k products will more than likely be:
-Primer 2-1-1 2parts primer/1part hardner and 1part thinners
-Basecoat 50/50
-Lacquer 2parts lacquer/1 part hardners and 10% thinners.
Could be wrong as I have mine written on the wall in the garage so I do not mess up the mix.Its always best to ask for the mix when you buy it and get them to write it on the lid.If you have over thinned the silver the paint underneath will show through as it is not getting enough paint on there to cover, this happened to me with candy apple red that was already thinned down and then I thinned it again.Took more coats/more times and still did not look right.

Just noticed your using 1k so will probably be diffrent mixtures.Would definetely be worth while ringing your supplier. When you say that black speckles are coming through do you mean the texture of the plastic?

no itw definately the black in the paint mix.
when i open the tin of basecoat i see loads of black at the top - then i shake it for ages and it looks spot on.
the finish looks like i have used poorly mixed/shook paint
i am guessing that my spray guns pick up is not fully at the botom of the cansister and the silver is settling very quickly after being shook so the gun picks up a 'black heavy' mix if that makes any sense.

ok, generally speaking the basecoat will be mixed 1:1 with thinners and the lacquer needs little or no thinners (1:10 at most) - and definitely no hardener. You do need to give it a good mix with a stirrer, I would have thought your gun is designed to pick up ok. A little swirl every now and again at the end of your pass wont do any harm.
But it does sound like the problem is more to do with the application?
Are you spraying directly onto black plastic without any primer? As the texture and make up of the plastic may cause the flecks paint to separate away from the paint and not settle evenly?
