It's fairly pointless just finding something with lots of bass and treble - unless that's how you want your system to sound - bass and treble is only part of the story.

People don't realise just how most modern CDs are recorded/mastered. They are aimed at the mass market, and made to sound good on cheap sound systems. Try something older - something made before 1990 is a safe bet - original Michael Jackson, Madonna, Dire straights and Pink Floyd etc are often recommended for really showing what a system can do - whether you like them or not!

A chap local to me works for a reputable ice installer, and the number of people who complain that their system "doesn't sound right" is increasing - mainly due to rubbish they are putting in, often low (<192kbps) bitrate mp3s, but some original CDs aren't much better!

If you are interested, have a look at this:

Obviously the youtube playback quality won't give a very good demonstration, but you should get the gist of it.

If your are just trying to find a song that will flex your system through as many frequencies as possible, A lot of the older Enya material has very varied frequency range.

Especially 'Caribbean Blue'

And the "holy grail" of bass frequencies happens to be 33hz
just a piece of useless info for you
33Hz is fairly theoretical although rather effective, and only the 'holy grail' for girls. It is supposed to be the resonant frequency of a certain part of the female physiology winkeye winkeye

And after a little box building and some decent test tones in the college music tech studio, i can safely say it works, but it probably doesnt have much to do with the frequency as such, just the massive vibrations you get from a 36mm travel 22" cone or two

I was advised by a few knowledgeable peeps to use the dangerous album from michael jackson
When I used to read Max Power they suggested any Michael Jackson track was a good system test

I'm well aware of that
Also well aware of which part of the female anatomy it works wonders on winkeye
+/- a couple of hertz either way works as well

OK, this may sound gay, but get a decent Mariah Carey track with a decent beat.

If you can tune your set up to play Mariah's high notes while pulling off the beat too, you've done a good job with your set up.

Its all about having the crisp balanced sound in your car.

Oh sh*t I just set myself up for that one.

But on a serious note, if your fussy about your sound quality, tune your set up to one of her good songs and you'll be sorted.
