Cheers.
One of each of the little ones will be going on each rear side window.. one big trampdrift one on the rear window, possibly the other on the front.. or maybe on my fridge at home...
, and maybe the third 325 tramp touring one going where my 316 badge is now... maybe.
Black on black... subtle..

Aha!! That'll be because I took the photo before I put the transfer film on so you could see them more clearly!munky30 wrote:They dont look like the ones I get from my local shop (they have a protective sheet on the sticky side and a backing sheet)
They're now covered and cut into individual stickers ready for application to the Drift Munky
Did you really think I'd make you stick each letter on individually!!!
See you Sunday.....

See you Sunday.....
Didnt realise the transfer film was a separate thing... though having seen the pic of the earlier ones coming out of the cutter it kinda makes sense
Many many thanks again
ps, I cant take them for free so if you pm me a number I'll bring the equivalent in magic beans.
Out of interest, how much does a vinyl cutter cost? And what software do you use to make up the graphics?

Will PM you in a mo' with total amount of magic beans for the job.....munky30 wrote:ps, I cant take them for free so if you pm me a number I'll bring the equivalent in magic beans.
You can pick up vinyl cutters from eBay for £300+ although most are either cheap imorted tat (new ones) or worn out commercial ones that have seen years of abuse!munky30 wrote:Out of interest, how much does a vinyl cutter cost? And what software do you use to make up the graphics?
A 'reasonable' one will cost you about £1,000+
Mine is a semi-pro machine (unlike all the crud on that auction site!) It cost me £1,400 two years ago and they are pretty much the same price now.
If you do decide to buy a cutter - go for Roland Camm series....they are simply the best cutter under £4k! If you can, go for a servo model (like mine) because they are more powerful and more robust.
Mine should have a stand with it - but I found it suits me more on the worktop because I can store all my rolls of vinyl underneath.
If you buy one, go for minimum of 600mm cut width - otherwise you limit your options on what you can make.
I bought mine just as a 'hobby' because I used to be a graphic designer and fancied having a play. It has paid for itself 5 times over already just through people asking me for work.
I don't advertise and I don't generally mention that I have one (this being an odd exception, but you seemed like a worthy cause!
I'm cut out some small logos this afternoon (1cm x 5cm) that I have to stick on some plant pots! 150 plant pots to do.....about 3 hrs work all in and £225 cash in my pocket!
If you can afford to get a decent one, you'll never look back! I've never had to service or repair mine and it will see me for many many years!
Software wise, I use a CAD package that I use for my product design stuff....
Basically anything that utilises vector and has good DXF import & export filters and you're laughing!
If you can get software with good bitmap:vector conversion then even better! CorelDraw is a good start...easy to use and very flexible.
I'll bring some samples on Sunday of some of the sort of stuff I can produce and give you more details of what is involved if you like? (or have I scared you off???
Bruce.

I use corel graphics suite 12 at the mo for photo editing, a little bit of logo design etc, not a fan of the new jasc/corel stuff. Much the same as you I just do it as a bit on the side, dont advertise or consider it as a business... yet.ZedOne wrote: lots of stuff about vinyl cutters

My local shop that does this sort of stuff uses it too so its always handy to take down a corel file that they can use straight off the disc.
Definitely bring some stuff on sunday, takes a lot more than that to scare me off and I've always thought being able to actually produce the final product instead of just the design would be a good money maker.
How fine can you get the detail? and have you tried two colour ones... Say for instance my tramp touring one, but with a white fill... basically two stickers put together.

A lot of schools use the Roland CAMM1 series because they are SO robust.maxfield wrote:School has one of these i leave next thursday
If you want proof of how sturdy these machines are - the fact that 90% of schools have them and they are STILL working is all the evidence you should need! If hundreds of school kids can't break one, then it's good enough for me!
Most schools have the base models: CM12, CM24, CX12, CX24 (12" or 24")
If your school has a GX24 (same as mine).....make a quick getaway with it......these are FANTASTIC machines!
Good luck with the leaving! 'Study' leave yeah?? That means exams real soon!
Bruce.

The wife just told me I am sad for getting excited about stickers.
'but they're custom made in my favourite font'
'you are a sad sad man, I'm going to bed' (long term relationship code for 'you're not getting any tonight')

Corel12 is cool - use it quite a bit! Like you, I'm not into the new stuff! "if it ain't broke...."munky30 wrote:I use corel graphics suite 12 at the mo for photo editing, a little bit of logo design etc, not a fan of the new jasc/corel stuff.
Here is some stuff I was playing around with last year on Corel12 to make some beer money:

Made LOADS of mugs with car logos and stuck 'em on eBay! Thought about doing car shows - i.e. make a whole batch before the event, but also take the production kit with me to make them at the show if I ran out of 'pre-made' stuff!
Never got around to actually doing it though! Like I said - I'll bring some bits with me on Sunday and you can give your opinion.....
That's more the 'printed' side of what I sometimes play with....there's also the vinyl cutter (as you've seen) and the t-shirt press too! (that's a LOT of fun!
Bruce.

You have a printer that prints onto mugs and a tshirt press!!!
You lucky bastard... you lucky lucky bastard!
All the toys I want
Very briefly I set up a business printing tshirts but a combination of the wife spawning twins and the cost of getting other people to print them meant it failed spectacularly...
The plan was to get my own press, and branch out into vinyl and mugs/mousemats, 'print to order' at car shows etc etc...
And there was me thinking I might need to point you in the direction of the fonts I wanted.
Some damn good work you've done there.

Sorry mate - forgot to answer this last night!!munky30 wrote:How fine can you get the detail? and have you tried two colour ones... Say for instance my tramp touring one, but with a white fill... basically two stickers put together.
Detail can be down to lettering a few mm tall - but it gets VERY tricky to 'weed out' the surrounding vinyl and can be a right royal pain in the butt!! It takes a lot of time and is very fiddly (hence why most vinyl graphics shops won't do it! frustration factor 10....skill factor 10!!)
Two colous not a problem although it uses more than double the vinyl because you have to build in registration marks....it also takes about 3 times as long 'cause of all the faffing......but it can be done. I haven't done much of this sort of stuff....but always willing to give it a go!
I'll bring some fine detail samples and some 2 colour stuff on Sunday (will I have any room left in the boot!
Bruce.
