right then ladies and gents....

today we flattened the clear coat, 3M 1500 wet paper using a sanding block (sort of a hard foam block) and then finished by hand with 2000grade paper by hand, plenty of soapy water and we took our time. I did bottle it a bit as the lad from the body shop did most, i did the bits under the door gaurds etc, he did the roof, bonnet and more visible bits, but once i did a panel or two i got more confident, but had to go back to work. We will polish with a machine and polishing paste tomorrow so should be able to post finished pics!!!

the paint spills i mentioned came right out, and unless you knew exactly where they were they are not visible :D

The pic below show the wing cut and the bonnet untouched from the spray job, it looks really matt and scratched but that will polish out (i hope  )

Cant wait for tomorrow to polish!!!

its finished!! looks much better then i thought it would, the polishing really brought up the shine. close inspection reveals a few spots caused by dust, which given the state of the booth was impossible to avoid, and there are a few ''thin'' areas where it looks like pin sized holes are there, but again htis is only when i look real close, the adjacent cars have similar things on them and these were sprayed by experienced guys,

overall i am verry happy with my efforts, will get some in the sun with the trim on later..

Looking good! Almost worth taking my car over to Bahrain to get it sprayed, especially at those prices...

Was thinking of you today when I saw a range rover sport with Bahrain plates driving through central london today... its number was "1111" must have been some "prince" or oil person....How did it get to london though, did they drive it or get it shipped? I wonder..

cheers all, actually saved my folks a fortune :( (thats me dad in the second shot) will get some outdoor shots, and some ''mistake'' shots where my spraying was not as good as the rest, could help zoners with my little bit of advice in the future.

My attitude to doing most jobs is if its broke you cannot break it anymore, so have a go yourself, if you cock it up then take it to a pro as you would have had to pay anyway (and while at the pro watch how they do it  you are paying for their service so why not gain something from it)

As for Bahrain plates in UK you are allowed for a year to drive on foreign plates, licence 1111 would almost certainly be one of the Royal family from Bahrain, or at least one of the bigger and richer families, he most probably would be a student studying over there and to ship a car as sea freight is only about a grand, so much cheaper then buying a uk RR sport

Oh yeah for the record Bahrain has very little oil, in fact it cannot even pull enough out of the ground/sea to sustain its own daily needs, so most is imported as a crude/raw state from Saudi Arabia and Qatar and refined here then used for various things, some export plastics etc, others as downstream supply such as ALBA which is one of the biggest aluminium smelters in the world,
And another fact is a good percentage of BMW alloy wheels are made here in Bahrain, but only the rough castings, they are finished elsewhere!! Tour over!! tip the tour guide please....
