At the end of the day, you're gonna get a different answer from everyone!!!
Best thing to do is go to a car audio shop and have a listen - it's your ears they've got to please!!
For detail, i've always found DLS awesome - but i'm sure there are plenty of other brands that are equally as good!!!
For proper sound quality, you need to make sure they are very well installed (sealing them in can make a difference!!) and use some sound proofing!! Drive with no music on and that's the noise your speakers are competing with, before you can even hear them!!!
For the record, i've tried a few JL speakers and find the treble way too harsh for my liking!! Their subs are on another level though - i've got a 13W7 waiting to go in
Also, never had an issue with buying second hand ice - imho that's the best way 'cos you will get top end gear for tiny prices
Same as anything, just be careful what you buy, check the seller rating, collect and check the gear before parting with money, or make sure the option is there to return it for a refund if it is knackered!!!
Look through the classifieds on the talk audio forum - most of the guys on there are pretty safe!!

ive got infinity comps in the front and 6.5 nakamichis in the rear. The naks are the best sounding speaker ive ever had ive got then running with an amp. Unfortunatly there 100 pound for 5.25 ones. Worth it though. I got mine cheap
