Been looking for a new stereo myself and think Alpine is the way forward.

Mine isn't retro in anyway, lol, its a fairly new Alpine CDR9880(?) which looks quite cool, but the most important thing for BMW fitment...

Orange illumination! (can choose between orange & green)

I recall my dads old 318iS (E36) had a dealer fitted (presumably alpine) unit that could change from green to orange too!

damn damn damn
somewhere lurking in the loft at my mums house is the most retro you will ever see
pioneer seperate component car set up
consists of touch control tape deck
seperate tuner and seperate graphic eq
all of which is run from 2 seperate power amps
cant for the life of me remember the model no's as not seen it for a few years now
but this setup costs some very serious money back in the late 80s
i know the amps are early gm??? moel number pioneers but no idea on model no's of the seperates
will try get them soon and post up some pics assuming the old bid hasnt binned them

last time i had them fitted was in a granada ghia x and the tape deck shorted out on something
it still lights up but i couldnt get it to work further than lighting up
the wiring had also been butchered of its original din plugs iirc
i will have toi try find them in mums loft see if theyre fixable
when it all worked it was one hell of a set up

Nah. I'm looking for a cheap old school high end head unit with preouts. Pioneer, Alpine, Becker.Alex wrote:might have a look and see if anything can be modified slightly

from another site, which incidently is about the same car
The faceplate ring and mounting gear that came with the CD300 didn't fit flush with the dash - another downside.
Luckily, the mounting kit and surround from my MB75 fit well and got me the flush fit. I was otherwise going to attack the CD300 faceplate ring with the dremel.

Errm.
That seems very wrong - is it a bit of crudely shaped rubber?
