I've recently posted a thread on my install -

Have a browse through the ICE section for other ideas.

What about the basic install help that is needed.
Like which colour wires etc for head unit and amplifier/sub install guides etc.
I doubt devonboye is gonna go custom, just wants tips, as do I.
Cheers

Custom all the way mate, i know mines in a touring and only half finished at the moment but hope it might give you some ideas, what you think?

I think in a coupe you lose too much bass when facing the subs outwards...
I've currently got two 12" subs facing into the car from the boot and it sounds massively better then when they were facing out.
hope this helps

The opposite for me. I have a single 12 in my 2dr and it is has more bass with it facing outwards. I think its able to move the air better than if it was facing the cabin up against the ski hatch panel.tari wrote:I think in a coupe you lose too much bass when facing the subs outwards...

See what I've done is indent the subs in the box so there's about an inch and a half wood around the edges (if you know what I mean), and stuck my amps on the floor between the sub box and the ski hatch. this gives me enough room for the subs to move all the air they need to in the car.
This through my own trial and error experimentations... Try it, you might be surprised

If I was installing into a saloon, I would almost certainly fit an infinite baffle sub in the parcel shelf. It would be a fair bit more work to install, but would sound clearer and more integrated, plus you wouldn't need so much power to really get it moving.
You have to check the specs of the sub beforehand though, as not all are compatible with this type of installation. You also get to keep pretty much your entire boot space.

if you want a heavy bassline that sounds clean i suggest a 12" Kicker L5. . . now i know you may be thinking " kickers bollucks " and i agree, BUT the enclosure makes a BIG difference, Kicker done a L5 in a box made by themselfs so its tuned properly. contact; e30gav on here and try and get him to post up pics. i fitted it with him and i tell ya, sounds better than 12"s and in a Coupe pulls out bass notes that remind me of my 15" L7! in my mk2 golf!
Bit messy, but my touring has been done up as a multimedia centre on wheels.
Current spec:-
- Head-unit:- 7" Motorised Touchscreen DVD Player (DivX compatible)
- Front Speakers:- Pioneer Components + Tweeters
- Rear Speakers:- Kenwood 6x9's + Tweeters
- Subs:- 2 x 15" Vibe BlackAir (350W rms each)
- Amplifier:- Loudest.com 1500W rms amp
- 1 farad Power cap (used mainly to monitor voltage on digital display)
- Reversing camera
- Digital TV Receiver (with amplified aerial 20db) + Terrestrial TV aswell.
- 2 x 7" Rear Head-rest monitors
Need to still use the boot hence the subs facing the seats so they don't get damaged when the boot is being used.
There is scope to add my other 2 15" subs in there aswell.

Breaking 325i Touring
this is mine it looks quite plain but it's the third different way that i've built the boot and i think the tidiest
first of all i fitted a false floor in 2 halves so i had something to screw to and still be able to get to my spare wheel
all i've done after that is build 3 sides of the skiniest box that i could fit the sub into, still sticking to the cc recomended for my sub, screw the amps on to the back of it (one for front comps the other for the sub) and my power cap to the side.
I then made a full width template to cut the board that the sub screws on to cut it out along with the hole for the sub and screwed it on to the box
a pic of my fronts

and one of the boot

that sub box looks well sweet mate nice job.
was thinking about doing something similar with my car but need the room in the boot plus i wouldn't have the time or the skill to make it look as good as i'd like it to be.

I've got an old skool Rockford amp, specially modified by rockford as they were sponsoring the car at the time('98) so it is rather good! Still sounds better than anything I have heard since and runs pretty much unlimited power!BadDave wrote:I'm loving the old skool Rockford Punch series amps
There were four in the car one for each sub and one for each component,i.e one for the left front, and one the right front
I've only got one now.
They will bury me with it!

i had an e36 before and the speaker fitting kit are plastic mounted parts that i have screwed on underneath the parcel shelf.
you can do the same with mdf and bolt under the holefor the speaker or put in a shelf on top of the parcel shelf
