Dont do it mate. They will probably fit, but you will have to do quiet a bit of arch work. You will also have problems with full lock with wheels that size on a 316. Lastly, unless you plan on fitting a kit to the car, i dont think it will look right as the wheels will just dominate the car and the 2 things are meant to compliment each other. Hope i'm not too late

bootyman you have done some serious modding to your cars. tell me what is the best size fro me to go for.
should i go as big as 18" or what would you recommend.
i have some 16" that will fit straight onto the car but was wanting to go a bit bigger. any suggestions?

Depends what you want your car for mate. My car is a show car so practicality is not my 1'st option that's whay i have 18x12 wheels and all the rest. I reckon the best size all round for a E30 is 16's mate. 15's are the most effective and 17's look the nicest so a compromise would be 16's. How wide they are is up to you, but it's normally 7" to 9" although you might need you arches rolled for 9" wide. Any bigger than 17"s and you will have to start spending money on other areas of the car. Think about it. BMW spend millions on developing their cars so that the balance and everything is just right. We come along and start whacking great big wheels and stuff on the car and think it doesn't make any difference. Well it does, so you either have to make the decision to go all out like i have or make conservative changes like very slightly bigger wheels, induction kit etc.

Booty and anyone else who can help, i was also considering 18x8 Alpina reps. Tyres quoted are 215/35/18 so the rolling radius is the same, if not a couple of mm less than the commonly fitted 17" 7j Alpina reps with 40 profiles fitted. If i never experienced any probs with the 17s quoted then how would the 18 with a similar diameter and width tyre cause any arch problems. Need to know before i throw some Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£s.
Thanks,
Andy.

lovely looking wheels there mate. I'm pretty sure you will have to do some arch work with 18's. That might also depend on how low your car is. I always find that mostly the back of the E30 is ok with bigger wheels. It's the fronts that tend to cause a lot of problems, with things like your turning circle being increased cause you cant get full lock etc. 18's might also mean rubbing on the inner arch of the back wheel, and you could end up with a situation like i had on my old cab, where the outside of the tyress looked fresh like new, but the inside was all worn badly. Saying that, there is one person on here who's running 18's on their E30. I cant rememebr his name, but might be a good idea to find out how day to day running of the car with 18's is.
