any ideas? i have 2 alpine amps one of them runs a pair of 8inch subs the other runs a pair of 5 1/4 and tweeters the fist one was only sending a signal to the left sub and the other no signal at all the pilot light is on on both amps. I have bought 2 identical amps to replace these but the faults are still there what should i check now and is it possible to check them out of the system

I would check the power and earth supplies first, then with the channel that works on the one amp swap the RCA's over to the other channel.
Then try this working RCA on the second amp.
What may have happened is the earth cable has come loose and the amps have been grounding through the RCA's - NOT GOOD.
What model are the AMP's I used to have 3 MRVT-505's in a Fiesta (I know, I've seen the light now) and if they shorted out they would go into protect mode.

Protect mode should in theory cut all the speakers out.
1st check cable, swap a new /or know working cable (RCA)
if solves = new cable!
if thats the same, try swapping the preouts with know working ones
if solves = defective preout
if the sub is not working still, try a different know working amp
if solves = new amp
if problem persists, check wiring for continuity, check connections tight
if solves = rewire possible or tigher up connectors
if still not working, swap with working sub, if works
= new sub,
Bit of a mission but you got to eliminate everything logically
