Would have prefered 17cm in the front 13cm at the back. Watch mounting depth as well when buying new speakers for a cab, theres chuff all magnet room in the rears

Bear in mind that some BMW audio wiring is pre historic, operating on a single ended output with a grounded fader. My (1986) wiring all had to be replaced.
The good thing about BMW cab wiring however is that if you look hard enough you can find tweeter wiring from inside the car running to just behind the door mirrors. These are great for Alpine tweeters (tho JBL probably sound much better).
I'd recommend all other 4 speakers are replaced with whizzer cone Pioneers as they are light, small and sound great. Dual cones are pointless in those locations and generally have higher distortion and therefore tiring to listen to.
Bass is non existent too - a 10" 100W sub in the boot is the minimum I would look at - I bolted a 10" JBL sub to the back of mine and it sounds good without using any real boot space - firing through two of the holes in the metalwork, powered by a 120W Alpine amp.
Stay clear of any speaker with foam surrounds. All the foam surrounds are cheap rubbish, at any price tag. Go for rubber or cloth, JBL, Pioneer do them, some Inifinity do, some don't. In my many years experience of drive units in cars and hi-fi I've never ever seen foam last very long - it always splits and crumbles, and then buzzes and rattles. Just say no.
When a manufacturer uses a decent surround material you can know that they actually care about their product rather than just your money
dissolving away in the sun.
