8" subs
Moderator: martauto
If space is more important then i would save my money if i were you,
and get a decent set of components on the rear shelf, it would give good results and you don't use up the boot!
never heard of them, 8 inch subs are not likely to give you deep low bass, more likely to be punchy mid bass. Agains depends on the tech specs of the subs.

Please don't buy em'
BTW where you based as i've got some cheap 10" subs.
Dude, fella wants a fiver for the pair, hence the question
I'm a virgin when it comes to car stereo so what should i be looking for?
Trust me!
THEY AIN'T WORTH A FIVER!!!
I didn't want to have to say this but....... I used to have some, and might still have them in the loft somewhere. They were awful, I had them in my nova 6 years ago. They won't give you any bass, just midrange and bad midrange too. If you put them in the boot you won't here them, and if you put them in the doors/shelf you'll slit your wrists.
What do you want? Bass or midrange

As above, Megavox gear is shite.
As far as 8" subs go, they can (if installed properly) give very good bass. I've got a pair of these bad boy's in my car, and they are quite capable of shaking the car if required. They will also play nice and low. That cone can move 20mm in each direction

You do however get what you pay for with Stereo equipment and speakers are not something you want to be scrimping on.
Ian.

If it aint broke - Modify it...
Get your wallet out then!
Get some good front speakers. So 5.25inch slim speakers in factory location or 6.5inch in some doorbuilds. Then get some subs idealy you want 3x10's, 2x12's or 1x15. Then get a good quality amp, as this is the most important part of your system. Also don't scrimp on cabling especially power and earth cables.
A really good cheap upgrade I done to a E30 last year was to put two sets of 6.5 inch speakers in each door in a doorbuild I made. Then I just ran them off the head unit.

I'm scotish
Without the head unit what do you reckon would be a good sensibly priced upgrade - no door builds, just speakers, amp and sub?
I have no idea about makes etc. But let's say budget is Ԛ£300

As for subs, like I said before 3x10's, 2x12's or 1x15. Jbl or Pioneer make good cheap subs:

As for amps, I can't seem to find anything for your budget. You need to stay with branded names such as kenwood or Pioneer, but not sony or jbl. To get a good deal you need to buy second hand really or get a 1 or 2 channel amp to power the sub(s) then get an amp for the fronts later.
But if you do want to get your wallet out I do have the perfect amp for your system, its a DLS A5 and will run your fronts and run upto 3 subs. It's about Ԛ£500-Ԛ£600 new and I'll sell it for Ԛ£250 delivered if your interested.

ebay bargains abound, i've picked up (for my work van) a blaupunkt cd hu for Ԛ£14, 2 alpine amps for Ԛ£10 and Ԛ£14, some focal mids for Ԛ£20 and alpine tweets for Ԛ£10. wow. i do a search for items locally then pick them up to avoid the postage costs and take up some wires and clothes pegs and cheap speakers (the factory e30 fronts then!) and make damn sure the kit works before parting with any money....
you really don't have to pay top money for decent kit these days - for amps i'd suggest sticking to decent recognised brands and generally the heavier it is the louder it'll go.
good luck - and enjoy it. tracking down that local bargain is fun and a good way to meet like minded people too, just make sure you don't make it go pop and smoke before you buy it!
