I have a 1986 316 auto - no rear speakers fitted. I want to fit some basic OEM-looking rear speakers (and recolour the rear shelf) but having got the seats and parcel shelf out - cannot see any wiring for rear speakers. I thought all these had pre-wired looms so assumed the cables would be there tied off. Anyone with a pointer as to where the original connector is ?

I'll admit to being a bit lazy - don't fancy pulling all door plate o ff to run new set of cables

No E30 had pre fitted speaker or radio looms. All ICE was dealer fitted to whatever option boxes were ticked on the order. (Not quite true - the tweeter wires are included in the door looms.)
Usual place for the rear speaker cables to be run is back along the central tunnel, under the carpet.

Ah, oh dear. Thanks for the info. Still, I suppose I've done most of the hard bit. I only get 1.5 - 2 hrs a week on the project so I hope the 'under the carpet done the transmission tunnel' bit isn't as bad as it sounds

If you've not already done it you'll find that if you use the central consol (take it out; nut under the rear ashtray) you only have to thread a short section of about 3" under the carpet from under the ashtray between the seats to the bulkhead under the rear bench and it's really easy once the consol is unbolted. It was by far the easiest option and actually a quick fit.

Done it but thanks for the reply - I didn't take whole console out - just undid nut inside ashtray and removed handbrake gaiter. Found wiring for power aerial and ran with that. Only needed to push under edges of console to reach radio slot. Spent more time stripping and crimping connecters for speakers. All working well now, well apart from the very loose fan & PS belts but that's another day...

?? That's all that holds it in. With that removed it would have just been lying there.
