Has anyone ever installed a second unit, period equalisers etc. at the dash or console?
Any mounting trays brought out for the E30 are nigh on impossible to source.. So what are the options?
Making one myself isn't going to happen.. I know some of you wrong'uns do that for putting gauges in the centre console.
2nd Head Unit Mounting Options?

I have previously had a standard h/u size (single din) eq, mounted in the centre console, under the heater controls!!!
(Think it was the kenwood kgc-9044 - still got it somewhere!!!)
Very easy piece to remove, just cut it with a decent knife iirc and clipped in the cage - bingo!!!
Was even room under it for a line driver to be tucked away too!!!
I would image you could easily get hold of a centre console from another zoner, so you can modify/prep it, before even taking your's out - avoids driving round with the car in bits and you've always got the original to go back in any time you want!!!

Cheers for that. When you say clipped in the cage, what do you mean? Did you screw anything to hold it in place? Mine doesn't have a cage, but hoping it'll be the right size for it to be held in by either side of the console.. wishful thinking!

A standard h/u cage will have a lip to stop it just sliding right through, and some tabs on the other side that you just bend out with a screwdriver to stop it sliding forwards!!!
The h/u then slides into and locks/clips into the cage!!!
As above, always loads on eBay!!!
What are you fitting and how is it meant to be fitted???
I'm sure a little bit of initiative can see it secured in place!!!

I was just wondering how the cage will mate up with the console.. But I suppose holes, in the console could be made for the tabs to fit in.. wouldn't exactly be very sturdy.. but would do the job.
It's a shame because they did make E30 specific versions of this

Unfortunately this is too small... I'm sure I can bodge something though

A standard cage would look something like the pic below (random google image!).
It's hard to see in that pic, but there's a lip on the front of the cage which stops it just pushing straight through the hole in the dash.
Hold it in place and push out the little tabs you can see have been pre cut, (top, bottom & sides), with a screwdriver.
The console is plenty thick enough and there are enough differently spaced tabs, to make sure this will hold it in place pretty steadily!!!
Your unit will then just slide into the cage and lock/clip in place (assuming it's the correct cage for the unit).
That's all your current stereo is held in by!!!
It'll be plenty sturdy enough!!!
