Ello Folks!
Just got a sub fitted in but having issues with boot as it's rattling a bit, was wondering if any sound experts out there that have any suggestions or know anyone who'd like a job?

You need to work out where it's rattling!!!

I've often found the number plate to be the worst offender!!! Tighten the screws (if it has any) - or fit it with some padded double sided tape or other adhesive - or put some kind of padding behind it!!!

If it's the actual bootlid - check it's fitted properly - does it need adjusting/tightening up???

If not its a case of locating the rattle or just padding/lining everything you can with some sound deadening material!!!

if rear number plate is screws- as above some double sided number plate tape on the ends- will stop them rattling, and find whats rattling- side and rear carpets could rattle a bit- make sure they are secure, maube some strategic placed bits of foam would stop that, and look at/tighten all the trim in the boot, stuff in the boot tidy might rattle, etc etc

If you look behind the bumper on the sides of the car, you will find these air vent looking things with a cover that is on a hinge this is where the water drains lead to.
These tend to cause an annoying rattle too.

the problem you'll have with most BMW's is the fact it has a metal bulkhead in the rear and the boot is sealed from the rest of car with the exception of a sky hatch, the very nature of this is gonna cause rattles if you have a big sub no matter how hard you try.

to minimise it it as above check out the number plate, its not just the plate that rattles but the black plastic that the plate sits on too, if you have a spoiler that will rattle too especially if its a tech 2 spoiler. then your gonna have the boot lid its self rattling no real cure for this but to reduce it line the boot lid with sound deadening and you can adjust your boot lock slightly to make the boot close tighter.

I love my ICE despite me being over 30 dont think I'll ever grow out of it I also love BMW's problem is the 2 dont really mix well BMW's are just too well built to get a nice sound from the boot unless you have a touring

It can be done, just takes bait more effort than other vehicles.

Venting through ski hatch works well and will get rid of boot rattle, but it needs to be sealed well.

Hmmmm. What design have you used? I'm currently using the original ported box for a pair of 12" alpine type r's.. facing them towards the front of the car has helped massively but I know im losing bass.

I have a 2x12" bandpass box which fits in the WHOLE boot space. :D

That way, I can't get asked to go shopping in the cab. :D winkeye

I always planned on getting a custom shaped enclosure fitted in the passenger footwell - replacing the glovebox and curving down to the floor, with a cheeky little 10" or 12" in there - before my cabby got hit!!!
Not an easy one though!!!

2x12"'s should be plenty though - if it's not, you either need a better box, or more power!!!

To be honest it sounds lovely compared to allot of cabs I've heard. And the amp I'm using is more the sufficient. I just want to maximise the output using acoustic solutions.
