i'm about to fit a bass tube to my car and want to know if i should punch out the ski hatch to get better sound in the car..

sorry if this is a stupid question but i have a 4x50 watt stereo with good quality speakers all round and the tube in question is an active type running through RCA's.

any thoughts?

cheers,
rich

Bass isn't something you hear, as much as you feel tbh. I'd be leaving it, but then I am no expert.

Not worth knocking out the ski hatch if you're running a passive bass tube.
You'd be better off running the rca's to an amp, then to a 12" sub, mounted behind the ski hatch removed.

rav, it's an active tube so the only cable running through the car is the RCA lead as the battery is in the boot.

so still no definitive answer on whether the ski hatch stays or goes?!

What brand is the Tube???
Taking the hatch out isn't a major issue, as it can always be put back in.

Take the hatch out, and have it facing towards the hatch opening. :D

I would deffo knock the hatch out!!!!

Try the sub in a few positions before fixing it in place - that'll tell you where's best
Maybe sideways against the back seat, with the sub near the ski hatch??

ok, the guy installing the tube didn't want to knock the hatch out so as to keep the enclosure more secure...

and the sound is lovely - nothing overpowering but fills in a warmth that was missing and if i need to kick some sub-bass arse then i can! well impressed.

need to find a way of securing it properly though, so will knock up some velcro based straps or something - but i am chuffed, and he did a great job and cheaply too.

anyone in the brighton area need a good auto-electrician/ICE installer then let me know and i'll give you the details.

cheers,
rich

I would always go with a seperate sub and amp, regardless of space etc.

Best option is to place the Sub towards the rear seats (not through the ski hatch) unless mounting in a hatchback or estate, then face the tailgate. Works better that way, no idea why though.
