I am in need of some speakers that will fit into the stock location without any cutting of the grill. Which ones fit?
I have just taken my old infinity's out and replaced the grills that i had to cut 2 big holes in as they wouldn't clear the speaker rubber outer section. Now i have nice, new un-mollested grills i don't want to cut them at all.
Thanks
What front speakers fit straight in?

5.25" (13cm) speakers in there - just check the mounting depth of the speaker before buying them!!!!!!
It would be worth measuring the available space behind the speaker if you can.
I am intending to check the mounting depth in mine tonight or tomorrow, as no one really seems to be able to give an answer, so i'll post up if i get round to checking!!!
(btw, i'm assuming you're talking about the front speakers!! lol!!)

Sorry, should have said im after specific speakers... make and model.
The infinitys are 13cm but because the rubber sticks out too far i can't use them with the grill.
What fronts are people using where they can still get the grill back on?

most speakers these days will touch the grill and if they dont they soon will do when you have the volume up. its they wat they are designed for more volume and excursion un like the prehistoric crap that used to be fitted
an option is to cut away the vented grill area and use the supplied speaker grill to protect it. the side grills are cheap and plentiful so not the end of the world if you do 'mod' them

Well i measured the available depth of the passenger side front speaker in the touring and it looks to be just over 7cm (72mm) - but that would be touching the metal panel behind and you obviously want a bit of space between speaker and panel!!
Now wondering if the cabby is slightly different, or if the 6cm above is realistically what you can put in with a bit of air between the magnet and the bodywork?
I was measuring it to see what i could fit in my new cabby!! Lol!!
Looks like i'll be having custom builds in the cabby then!!! And the touring will prob not have any grills anyway!!!!
As for exact speaker models, i have had rubbish cheap sony ones, DLS425 coax (reference i think!), Rainbow KX130........
Personally i would (and currently am!) look on ebay and the talkaudio forum and see what quality 5.25" (13cm) speakers come up and just check the mounting depth!!
TBH though, i've never actually bothered checking the depth before and never had an issue fitting normal, average ish speakers. I would only really expect problems if looking for something really high powered!!
What's your budget for speakers then?
And are you thinking coax (one speaker behind the grill, does it all) or components (mid down behind the grill and tweeter up on the inside of the door mirrors)???

Once upon a time the dodo was an abundant creature also.
Keep cutting up, rusting or modifying parts, but don't start complaining once there are none left after BMW wave the NLA wand over yet another bunch of E30 parts.

I am just after some coaxials that i can get the un-cut cover over the top off.
I have some cut up covers that i put my infinity kappa components behind but i have removed all the fancy ICE and just want stock look. Couldn't care much for loud or great quality as i am preparing the car for sale.
Guessing some cheapish ones will be ok, the smaller the rubber the smaller the excursion so should be a safe bet!
