hi, i currently have a black mtech 2 kit which i wish to paint delphin grey, can i just rub it back and primer and paint it or will i need any special materials?, thanks....

it totally depends on the finish of it currently, if its in good condition and its not really got any stone chips it could be as simple as needing grey scotching and painting.
If there are stone chips they can be easily rubbed out and if to deep using some filler or stopper and then rubbing it back.
Then the whole area needs to be scotched, red scotch if your going to prime it.
Once that is all done some plastic primer or adhesion promoter needs to be sprayed onto the bare plastic parts and then it to be primed.
If your letting a bodyshop paint it i would reccomend that you let them prime it etc as unless you use a gun then the primer will never be as thick from a rattle can.

its in excellent condition, just the wrong colour, its just someone said to me to wet flat it then paint it.... i was just curious as to prime it of paint straight over it.....

if its in great condition, u only need to grey scotch it well and make sure its all keyed well so showing no shiny bits, then paint it.
dont need to prime or wet flat it unless the finish is a bit rough, if it is grey scotch it all and then p800 wet flat it so that you have a smooth finish to apply to.

I've got Tech II bumpers to paint and it was recommended to me to use a plasticiser mixed in with the paint as the bumpers have flex in them. Please don't ask for more details as I've never done this before but it makes sense to me.

Interesting - are you in the paint business ? Now that I've got two conflicting opinions I'm keen to understand the experience that sits behind them.Graeme_W wrote:not really needed on a bumper like the tech 2. its more for really flexy bumpers and bigger ones.
Is added to the lacquer but alot of laquers these days move alot anyway so it genrally not needed.

yeah im a fully qualified painter, currently out of work due to being made redundant recently but i used to work in a BMW approved place and then i moved to doing classic aston martins, rollers and bentleys along with alot of prestige cars.
Plasticiser bascially stops the paint/lacquer from fracturing so getting harline cracks and lots of them.
Most lacquers these days have so much flex in them and merc now use a ceramic lacquer that basically moves and is never fully cured. when you get a stone chip its ment to move and cover the chip to prevent rusting and also if the chip hasent gone to deep get rid of it.

Nice one bud - I'll bear that in mind, that's one less part in the paint mix.

get it painted touching up can sometimes make the scratches look worse than wat they are if not that bad try g3 on them with a mop or if that fails then block with 2000 wet and dry be very carefull not to go through the paint though then mop up with g3 if this fails you need to get it painted
