Hello,
Currantly got a 12inch sub in a box in the boot of the car, but its winding me up moving around everywhere and just taking up so much room.
Has anyone got any ideas on moving it out of the way somewhere? I've seen some dude in america I think mount it on the seatback in the boot with the ski hole removed, has anyone else done this?
Might be moving down to a 10 inch sub, im not into massive bass, just something to clear tracks up.
Cheers
Sub build 2 door

I wrote a nice reply to this for you - and my pc crashed!!!!! Bastard thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway - you have a few options!!!
Firstly, whatever box/sub you end up with, make sure it is properly fixed in place!!! If it slides about with normal driving - think where it'll end up after an accident!!!! Probably on the back of your head!!!!
Using either your existing 12" (assuming you like the sound) - or a new 10" sub, you could lose the spare wheel (get a can of that tyre filler stuff for emergencies) and build an enclosure into the wheel well - keeping pretty much all your boot space!!
Or - check that you're sub needs a box that big!! You could even try it in an enclosure slightly smaller than the specs say and put some wadding in the box (effectively fools the sub into thinking it's somewhere bigger!).
Or - do a good build on one side of the boot which doesn't waste any space!! Not just a square box, but shaped to the side of the boot!!!
Or - you could build a box as shallow as the sub is deep and as wide as needed to give the required enclosure volume - and mount it so the sub fires through the ski hatch (assuming you have a rear armrest!). Make the front of the box sloped so it sits right up against the back seats, so as not to waste any space!!
You could go free air (someone on the talkaudio forum did one recently in an e30 - prob a user on here actually!!!) but you will need a new sub that is designed to work in free air!!!!
You would effectively then just sound proof the boot and mount the sub so it's firing through the ski hatch!!! No box required (it's using the whole boot as a box!!)
Hope that gives you some ideas!!!
Just remember a sub box doesn't have to be square, so use your imagination!!!!!
