325i into early 323i help please

hi guys a little help/advise please im putting in a 325i 90 model engine into 84 model 323i bolt ups are the same but 325 wirring loom has late model round 17 pin conector and in the car at the moment is a rectagle block conector this is the one nearest to the fuse box can these wires bet spliced in to adapt if i get my hands on bottom peice of round conector or is there a beter way to do this im all ears thanks
