i know its not an e30 engine but many will know im using a stage 2 garrett T34 turbo with 360 bearing and cut back blades with a .48 housing for quick spin up (boost kicks in at 1400rpm).
these turbos arent cheap at £800 each.
is there a holset turbo that will work well with my 4 pot cosworth engine that is equally quick at boosting but will also handle upto 400bhp?
im looking for a cheap back up turbo but new not second hand or recon.

+ a proper split manifold.
the hx30 isn´t split, so you can get the HX35 do to equally as good with lower boost.
obviosuly beeing the better case.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

ive had this information from someone who served his apprenticeship at cummins where they build these turbos so i think i shall stick to the tried and tested garret as i already have a spare t34 with .63 housing .
Its all good and well using a Holset turbo, but bear in mind they are designed for diesel engines and much lower operating temperatures.

The material used to cast the exhaust housing will not stand the temperatures that a petrol engine exhausts and will fail in a short space of time, as will the bearings and the core.

Stick with the propper turbo for the job. But if you still want to go down the Holset route, you would be best looking at a HY35 as that has an internal wastegate in the turbine housing, wheras the HX series are for external wastegates before the turbo (like you see on many high power cossies)
