Hi

Been looking at intercoolers on Ebay and found this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FMIC-FFRONT-MOUNT ... dZViewItem

But decided I could probably make it cheaper for myself, since I had all the materials laying about in the house....

Image

Should be good for around 1 psi, maybe 2 especially if I reinforce it with some PVA :)

Only probelm is the bumper restricts the airflow slighty....

Image

but this should protect it from the rain at least, stop it disintigrating :o

What you reckon?

Anyone else used these cheapo ebay intercoolers?

Sorry dude
Haven't used one of them but i could suggest a cheaper alernative

It would mean you having to relocate the oil cooler or remove it altogether

From an old Volvo and fills the frontal area nicely, whilst still leaving room for a leccy fan between it and the rad

Just a thought

Do you know what volvo it is from?

I guess you have to move the radiator back to fit that one?

It's either from a 740/760 or the 940/960

Can't actually remember which one :hammer: :x

Some of them have the I/O pipes half ay up the cooler
I THINK ist from the 940 but can't be sure

I haven't actually fitted it yet, however, all the measurements suggest the rad does not need moved at all and there should be sufficient room to fit a spal/kenlowe/wipac fan between the rad and cooler
Failing that, a fan from a Chavalier 1.7TD is quite thin and should fit

I'll be fitting this one, once i've got all my turbo goodies sorted out and dummy fitted on a tourer i'm breaking.

Just need to dummy fit/fab the rest of the parts and then swap them to the 2.5 tourer after i've got my coilovers,ITB's,plenum chamber, and standalone ECU fitted

Looks good, after all it is massive!

What size piping are you running, does that intercooler have 2.5inch connections?

So if you dont move the rad where are the outlets going to go? I assume you intend to put it upside down and have the pipes coming from underneath? Does it interfere with the brake ducts or the fog lamps at all?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, just trying to imagine how it all fits!

Cheers

It's 590mm wide at the top
740mm wide at the bottom(where th I/O are)
It's approx 445mm high and 57mm wide with 65ish mm I/O and WILL fill the entire centre frontal area on the E30
The I/O are where the oil cooler would normally be on a 325i andf the intercooler extends to the bottom of the front valance, hence my referance to "taking up the entire central frontal area"

It is going to be mounted upside down and does not,AFAIK interere with the brake ducts and does not extend anywhere near the fog lamps unless you route your pipework into that area
