M60 V8 compatible gear boxes

What manual gearboxes are compatible with the M60/62 engines?

Just looking for options later on.

5-speed S5D 310Z/320Z from E34 530i or E32 730i and S6S 420G from E34 540i, E39 540i, E31 840i, E32 740i and E38 740i.

Theres a manual 530 V8 in my local breakers with a snapped timing chain.
Put someone from here onto it months ago but the w4nkers in the scrapyard wont get it down from the top of the transit its sat on

Ups, sorry. The S6S 420G is 6-speed of course, Getrag, much bigger and more expencive (it is more or less the M3 3.2 g'box with different bellhousing). The S5S 310/320Z is ZF, 5-speed and cost a lot less second hand. It wasn't fitted at factory to M60B40 and M62B44 but in practice it is enough strong for it.

So the M60B30 box I have at the mo would be the s5s.

If only I could find a s6s in the scrappy somewhere!!

That is S6S 420G, exactly the same as in 540i.

What diff would I need for that? 1100Eur is a tad expensive, but then again.. It is a 6 speed box!

Do you know the differences in length between the 5/6 speed boxes?

I have 2x S6S gearbox's in stock along with clutch, flywheel, gearstick assy, manual engine M60 loom (inc engine ECU with matching EWS kit)

1 kit is ready and available for immediate dispatch But is being sold with the M60B40 V8 (E34 540i Touring)

Price on the complete 4.0 engine and 6 speed manual kit (as listed above) is Ã‚£1,100.

I can supply pictures if your interested.

Are you after just the box ?
As i would only be interested in selling the box, flywheel, clutch, manual wiring loom & ECU (inc EWS kit) and gear stick assy as a package.
I don't want lots of individual bits lying around. So everything minus the 4.0 i would be looking for Ã‚£800

Nothing wrong with the engine at all mate. 121k and all good. Engine isn't priced seperately at 300. I was doing you a deal price as a whole package.
Its M60B40. Has ECU and complete matching EWS kit with key.

I have no idea what you want it for. 540i (E39) used 2.81 diff with 225/55R16 tyres and M5 E39 was using 3.15 diff with 275/35R18 tyres.

You can find loads of info on www.e30.de. Go to 340i (on right side of picture) and under 10.0 Getriebe und SchaltgestÃƒ¤nge you have all info about gearbox and gear selector.

I'm running the 5 speed with a 3.15 slipper, but was thinking of 3.08 or 3.4 slipper instead.

What diff were the 530's running?

To choose the diff you need first know what gearbox you will use, what tyres (diameter), what is the redline of your engine and what max speed you want.
And I presume that you want to use E39 diff. You can't it won't fit. It is 210 diff but with totally different mounts than in E28 so even after fabricating rear bracket or whole rear cover the front mounts are completely wrong. If your engine is more or less standard 188 diff is fine.

Colin, your gearbox and diff are fine, your brakes definately ain't and some working power steering would be nice !.
I hope you realise the vehicle inspection in aus to register the turd involves a road test, he won't like your brakes !

I know.. but without some major modifications, getting a servo in there will be difficult. I'm going to see if I can fit the e23 thing under the dash but I highly doubt it. The other option is to go with the servo where the battery tray is. but that requires fabbing brackets up and I'm not sure how the RTA will like that. Did you drive it?

You can use E34 540i setup: vaccum servo and pump fitted just behind left lights.

Is that standard for the E34 540? I havent seen a 540 engine bay. I know there's a few guys in the states running ths, but as my engine bay space is limited, the LH front is occupied by my oil filter housing and expansion tank!

Do you have any pics of this?
