anyone have any ideas on stand alone ignition systems as i no longer have space for a dizzy! so im looking for somethin that dosnt need to use the oem crank trigger on the flywheel! preferably multi coil setup!
thanks all.

Wahey!

Like that :) Which supercharger did you use?

If it were me, I'd junk the original engine management altogether and get a mappable ECU that can control the fuel and sparks relative to engine speed, load and boost.

Whereabouts are you from?

Cheers!

Welcome to the zone M8, nice project engine !!

I like the Alternator swop idea, had you considered using the A/C compressor bracket for the alt ?, would have done the job sweet dude and kept the alt mounted very low in the bay.

bit late now though but its worth a mention for others that will , no doubt follow in your footsteps

keep us posted dude :thumb:

has anyone had any sucess with one of those msd stand alone ignitions
ie: Programmable Digital-7 would hate to blow that kind of money on somthing i cant get running!
my old setup ran quite well. it could have been a lot better!
now i got the option of using the front cap thing but im not sure.

did want to go for some kind of "coil on plug" system.

thought about Bowling and grippos mega squirt at all ?, upgrade that to MSnS ( and spark) using a GM or ford EDIS module for a cheap muticoil setup, its a good and well regarded setup.

have you checked out www.e30tech.com, its a US site and there is a lot of info to be had with a quick browse of the turbocharging forum.

My MS should arrive next week, I'll be running again Wohoooooo!

The only advantage I can see to coil on plug is the charge times for the coils being longer thus giving more consistent sparking. Can't really see a 6cyl DIS coil pack being that much worse.

In terms of buying an ignition only system (other than the options ant mentioned) I'm not sure how many people offer them.

Think that DTA and OMEX do a system that supports coil on plug, but they do fuel too.

Not really sure how you'd hold the coils on either as certainly on my M3 engine they're stuck down the plug tubes and then bolted down for good measure.

The Ford EDIS system has a seperate coil unit with four or six outlets depending on which engine it is for.
I've got a 24V Cosworth engine to go in my Tasmin racer using the 6 post coil pack and seperate ignition leads.
My bog standard 24V Alfa uses seperate coils with plug boots etc attached and clamped to the rocker box.

Ant. Any news yet on the Megasplurge? :P

looks like the later 5 series fitted with the m20 had a 62 -2 front pulley and sensor!
bolt on replacement! and after speaking to the guy from emeraldm3d this will be enough to trigger a wasted spark system.
the headach continues!!
