so.. took my 325 turbo to be mapped on friday, and on the way noticed it was quite smokey, but thought it may be down to it running too rich, but turns out that oil is getting somewhere it shouldnt, either piston rings or turbo seals or something along these lines :(

So what the guy did, was remove the dump valve and dis connect the actuator, resulting in the car running at 3 psi max at top end, in order to reduce the oil problem. The car seems to be running alright driving normaly.

After starting the turbo conversion, i discovered that the engine was the high compression 'E' version, so i wasnt expecting it to have huge power, but the rolling road result with the above settings came out as 173BHP @5300

I know that the boost is very low, but i thought it would at least be a bit higher than they are suppose to be standard??

Im getting the engine tested for rings this weekend, but for now im open to suggestions as to what it could be?

thanks, jonathan

What breather setup did you settle on in the end dude ?

I had issue with mine with a closed loop/check valve system, ok when vented direct to atmosphere though.

Also post your graph and afr´s,
and more information on the setup as a whole.

wasn't the E version less power to start with?

its definately a 2.5, not a 2.7, and the specs on the mechanics auto chart said it should be 170bhp.

ill post the graph after work tonight

ant, i havent as yet touched the breather system, so will look into that direction before changing anything big!

E is a 9.75:1 CR early bottom end, B25K is later 8.8:1 Cat ready

Jon, if you're breather is still routed to the TB ( from the r/cover) its all still closed loop, I'd imagine it would smoke a little.

Cut the hose by the TB and block it of( 16mm bolt for now... )

this will allow the engine to vent its fumes directly out of the R/cover stub, re-asses the smoking afterwards.

Agreed with Gunni on the Afr's though, nothing will kill power faster than a rich mixture, and the basemap I supplied is deliberatly rich so you can work backwards from a "safe" state.

Nothing kills engine like oil mixtured intake.
It drops the octane way low.

ok, im with you! the guy at the rolling road has trimmed a fair wack off, but only at bottom end cos the smoke was too much to take it any higher, he didnt wanna risk det. ill try blockin that hose and see what happens

cheers

Jon,

Ant had a graph from his trip to BB's RR I think, that was on about 4psi.

Hey guys, just to let you know, you were right! I put the oil pipe to atmosphere and its solved :)

Then i was a proper tw*t and put £6 of deisel in by mistake! I put £43 of petrol on top in the hope it will thin it out a little, but i gotta take it easy until its all out :(

After thats sorted a front mount intercooler is going in, then back to continue the mapping, hopefully for a better bhp result this time :)

ive been and put some more petrol in today, so another session of slow driving and another top up and she should be ready to go again :)

ant, what sort of bhp should i be expecting with the high comp engine, so i know what im aiming for?

also, could you pm me a price for rebuilding it with forged piston etc, and also for rebuilding a 3.5 with the same, as im looking to do something like that during 2008 some time!

high CR and 4 psi should see 220-240 ish I rekon, V difficult to say TBH dude , if its pig rich you'll be down on power for sure, aim for a safe 12.5 on boost for now and she should be OK

Alex got 270 BHP on his High CR with twin turbos @ 7 psi

I lost all the dyno sheets from mine when My HD shat itself a few months back  must backup more often !

wow, i wasnt expecting it to be that high! i seem to be a long way off those kind of figures. Should be a lot better now im not pressurising the oil breather! I got it compression tested the other day and everything was sound inside the engine. My charge temps were high cos of the location of my intercooler, so in the next few weeks ill be front mounting it, then see what happens. Cant really think of anything else that could be reducing the power that much.
