Hey guys, me again lol, i cant make my mind up wether to do a 325i or a 335i engine swap into my 316i, which is the cheaper/easier conversion? After some fleebay surfing ive found more (for cheaper) 535i donor cars. Also does it matter what type of engine it is, m10, m20, m30, m40 etc or do they all drop striaght into my engine bay??

Cheers

Adam.

All of the above will fit and have been done.
A 325 will be the quickest fit as the 535 has some issues which you will need to over come like what is the doner engine e28, e34 ect what engine mounts(which have to be bought as they are custom made) custom propshaft and so on where as an m20b25 will drop staight in with the gearbox and diff. but there are other things to consider.

The M10, M20, M40, M42 and S14 are engines that BMW have fitted to the E30 as standard for the UK market, so any of these can be fitted easily, using off the shelf BMW parts.
Variations of the above engines are also fitted to other BMW models, and engines from these can be fitted into an E30 shell, but usually require an E30 sump, manifolds, etc. to be fitted.
BMW engines that were never fitted into an E30 shell for the UK, like the M30, M50, M52, M54, M60, S50, etc., can also be fitted into an E30 by using various parts from the BMW parts bin, but some custom parts usually have to be made as well.
Problems also arise with clearances on the steering gear and brake servo/master cylinder.
It's all down in the archives of the engine swaps forum!
