Hi, I'm thinking of using the 2.5 24 valve non-vanos M50 engine for a turbo conversion for me e30 convertible, does anyone know how much boost can be run through these with blowing the engine, I've read loads of articles in magazines abouth people getting 400 to 500 hp from these on stock internals on an everyday driver car, but this seem too ptimisitc to me, I'd like around 300 hp, but I'm wondering whether to get forged pistons or not.

I´ve seen 390hp from only 10psi , that of course was an excellent manifold, turbo sized properly and full engine management, in a E30 even,

I guess a thicker MLS gasket would be next step along with 15-18psi boost,
That should easily make the required hp you´r looking for
With great challenges comes great engineering.

will be difficult for the manifold to clear the chassis leg and also the steering rack on an e30.

6 psi should net mid 250+ easily enough with a good torque increase.

I'd be concerned about the quality though... thats a lot of kit for less than 1/2 the price of that turbo from Garret/Turbotechnics/BTn - whoever.

Maybe I should buy one for my touring and just see what shits itself 1st.

I was thinking the same thing.. wouldnt have to modify the manifolds to fit round the coupling then!! just need a y piece and sum custom work, easier than modifyin the manifold.

And even if it lasts a couple of years, just go out n buy a decent garrett to bolt on!!!

What managment would a bolt on upgrade like this need?? if any??
Cheers
