i've cooked my 320i (thermostat didnt open) any clues what may have gone??
is replacing it with a 325 engine simple?? what would i need?

Probably one of the easiest swops there is!
You will need the 2.5 engine, and the ecu (or at least the chip from the 2.5).
Depending on what comes with the engine, you will also need the AFM and inlet boot plus the throttle body and inlet manifold (most engines should come with all this anyway.
You can even keep your 2.0 gearbox, good acceleration in 1st!
Your 320i will probably also have a small case diff, with quite a high ratio, and it would be advisable to upgrade eventually, but the car will drive fine with your current diff.
