Going to be looking to gain some extra power out of the "old girl". Engine has only covered 97k miles and is completely standard. I am not looking to spend silly money (a few hundred quid) and want to take power up to nearer 200bhp. Is this possible? What mods do you recomend to give me the greatest bhp? Nigel.

For a few hundred quid you could poss get another 10% but that's being optimistic.
Is yours the pre-facelift engine? ( higher comp )
If so later stock management will add a few ponies but you need the parts to do it.
There's also MS ( megasquirt ) it'll be the fat end of a monkey and will enable more mods in the future, seek out MATTG, he had his 325i MS'd and gained loads of torque and power was up too.
Parts wise there's the Big Bore TB, wild cam, zone chip, decent manifold and exhaust but again there's your few hundred gone for maybe 180/185bhp.
My 2p, save up and go for broke, get the head sorted, ported, matched and flowed, cam and 6 branch and a standalone, I'd hope you'd see the 200bhp you're after but there's no 2.5 on the zone I know off thats ever proved 200 but I'm sure it can be done
This would all be useless info if you came over to the darkside and realised what e30's should have had power wise, there's no going back once you've had boost!

or if you look around you can get a M50 Twin cam e36 engine for about $500 UDS. If your able to work on your own car the swap is not hard. But take the car off the road for about 3 weekends.
Thats the cheapest way if you do the labor to get over 200 HP.
If your going to stay with the stock engine you can do a chip/ Exhaust, air intake.. The usual.. another cheap upgrade is to put a higer rear end in the car.. 3.7x to a 4.10.. gets you off the line faster. But lowers the top end.
