There aren't any cons as far as I know, just pro's really.
With MS you get full control of both fuel and sparks along with a few others if you choose too.
It allows you to run different types of ignition and injectors along with control for things like boost, water injection, nos etc etc
The initial costs are low and with some thought and preperation you can build the ECU yourself in a few hours, I did and I'm no sparky.
You need the basic sensors and a few toys but overall it's got all of the features you could possibly want and more.
Along the same idea is VEMS and SPECTRE which are slightly more upmarket versions coming with more built in parts, less hassle for masses.
PM Ant for any prices etc,
HTH, Mark.

For the cherry on top - don't forget to add Wasted Spark to your shopping list of parts - costs about the same as a new dizzy cap. I made my MS from scratch, and it's brilliant. No negatives I can think of, except for the steep learning curve... you really need to do your homework.

It doesn't do non-wasted spark 4cly coil on plug ignition without modification (or at least it didn't a few months back when I looked). Not a problem for NA engines but possibly an issue if you're building a supercharged motor.

one major plus, aside from the performance/response improvement is that it's a brand new EFI system, loom, ecu etc replacing 20 year old stuff. so you suddenly stop having daft problems like hunting idle, misfiring, non starting etc
mine has been the most reliable car i've had since the MS went on, it never ever runs anything other than perfectly
