There is hardly anything you can do apart from chip and altering cam timing.
I've searched and searched.

Just fit an SR - it's easy and powerful! Modifying the M40 will always be hard, just get whatever's easiest for you in Thailand.
If I couldn't find big capacity BMW engines for £200, but could get an SR for £500, then I'd just go with that!

I've wonder what a stanalone ecu like megasquirt would do for one of these. You could get one sent to you and set it up yourself.

Is your windscreen tinted?
Best thing to do with the M40 is get it out of your engine bay

The M40 can be modified. Piper Cams do two camshafts, a 270 degree fast road and a 285 degree 'wild' stick. They quote 10 bhp and 14 bhp for these, but I'd use the 270 cam with a decent chip - should be good for 130 bhp. A bigger bore throttle body would be next. Change the cam along with the rockers, rocker pads (between the rocker and the valve) and the hydraulic lifters as well as the cambelt and all three rollers. That would sort out all the M40 issues and make it a pretty decent engine. The M40 is really a bag of shite in old age but one in perfect nick is a pretty good engine.

Thank you for all suggestion. So I should change camshaft and chip? I know only Dr. Schrick camshaft. Does anyone suggest me another brand?

reckon there would be anything to gain by fitting throttle bodies/ bike tb's and a standalone engine management?

Oh! sorry. This is a problem for me because I always call the body and engine parts in Thai language. When I saw the words that you wrote, I look up in google search for the meanings and pictures.
5 minutes ago, My friends called me that he can find another Hartge' parts for me. It's time for spending money again
