At last...... I know, it's been eating at me too but atleast the wait is now over.
Sat AM I spent an hour in the MOT station playing with the gas analiser trying to sort out the cars emissions, after some farting about and discovering another issue on the way it passed with flying colours, 5 mins later it was taxed and fully legal.
To keep up the project theme over the last few months, as soon as I got home I stripped it all down again and started the fault finding, which took about 10 mins and a new HT lead and all should be well.
I have managed a few miles as it is, it'll pull fine till 5k in the lower gears and boosting up as it should, just started to misfire under heavy load which I can put down to number 4 HT lead finding it's way onto the manifold, which wasn't the best idea.
If anyone out there is going to insure a modded car I would suggest HIC ( Herts insurance) as they were very fair to me and with all the mods declared and logged all should be well, the really weird thing about it all is I actually pay less now than I did on a standard car!
Anyway hopefully I'll be out and about at some meets soon, no plans as yet as I want the car 100% before I go driving miles away from home.
Thanks to all for your help over the last few months, well 15 months, big THANKS to Ant @ A-Tech again for his invaulable help on this project.
Now lets see how long my driving license lasts!! LOL
Mark.

Congrats dude
I bet you also get an absolute numpty when you ring up to tell them about your latest mod who glibly informs you that your car has "throttle coolers", "throttle bottles" and a "Wild brake kit"
Do they actually know what they're insuring FFS?! (this is my insurance company BTW, just taking the opportunity to have a rant

The engines settled down now into a lovely smooth beast and to be honest I'm still getting used to the characteristics of it.
Where my old T3 would run out of go at 5k the holset doesn't start till 3.5k and when it does you can feel the power coming in, very smooth too.
The off boost drive is good and with any less than 50% TP I can stay out of boost still have a driveable car, depress the pedal in 4th or 5th over 3k and you get instant boost, it builds smoothly till 9psi before the screamer lets loose.
I'm yet to really open her up 1st to 5th but I have managed a few 2nd gear pulls and a to pass on a comment made by a good mate "the speedo can't keep up with the car!"
I'm really chuffed about the way it's working at the mo, still sorting some mapping and then finalise the spark map and I'll be ready for more! Need to find a tial 1 bar spring now.
Hows things with you? Getting better I hope?
Thanks, Mark.

Could ya not leave the 9psi spring in there and then use the boost mapping to take it the rest of the way?

Alex, that's a question I would like answering........Turbo-Brown wrote:Could ya not leave the 9psi spring in there and then use the boost mapping to take it the rest of the way?
My thoughts are that with the twinport wastegate you CAN overide the spring by using the balance of pressure between the ports, i.e if you give both ports equal pressure and also equal to the manifold pressure the spring should stay still. If the top port is then vented to atmos and controlled by the ECU it should be able to control the boost that way, however I've been told by a few "guru's" that the best was is too use the spring and just have the ECU control the speed of the gate opening and closing using the above method.
The idea is too have the ECU open the gate at the same pressure of the spring and this will mean a better spool and quicker opening of the wastegate as the ports are equalled out before the top port is vented.
I've had a play with the solonoid you sent me, thanks again, but not yet on the car, my mrs had a lovely little hobby compressor I was using but she's now nicked it and is using it for spray tans! ( Anyone want a cheap tan? LOL)
Ants got his method and I'm down with him tomorrow so we may have a play then, amoung other things, like a cold air induction kit, I need one of those, ow and a bigger intercooler, def need one of those to!
What's your take on the boost control then?
P.s. 9.146 psi so far and feck is that fast! destroyed a mk5 golf GTI today, a 200sx turbo the other night, e36 325i was too easy.

Two red blown e30's whose owners come from Doncaster, small world eh??!?
I'm with HIC too, which I liked more as it's close to my H1C turbo!
With all the mods declared I'm £100 better off than before.
I get to drive it home in the rain in 10 mins, looking forward to that!

lol i know what u mean, mine was running rubbish for ages, then brought it up to ant and got it mapped up for 13psi, these things definately do fly when u put some boost in there. unfortunately my one has spit the head gasket out for like the 4th time so strip the goodies off and scrap the shell and juststart on the new project.
but good luck with your beast and hopefully it wont blow up
