You're not kidding. Good luck with the swap. There are three or four 'on the go' on here at the moment.
Get those pics up.
yeh i have been searching a few days for the answer on here but no luck
i just need to know what servo and master cylinders people used and what mods where needed as its very tight
my other questions if any one can help are the matrix pipes from the bulkhead are right up against the inlet now, how have people solved this?
what radiator setups people have used i take it they have done away with the viscous fan and gone electric? does any one have any engine bay completed pics? or any links that may be useful
i also work for a uk main bmw dealer so if any one needs any help with anything else drop me a line

This may be of some help:
Golf MkII 1.3 servo (ATE item) moved over 57mm on my car

You may be able to use the thin fan from the diesel. There is some info on here somewhere.
It's all here on the zone

Golf MkII 1.3 servo (ATE item) moved over 57mm on my car

Cut the matrix pipes back to inside the car and then use some 19mm i.d. samco elbows to go through the bulkhead grommet and connect up as normal.my other questions if any one can help are the matrix pipes from the bulkhead are right up against the inlet now, how have people solved this?

Mk1 Golf GTi servo (basically the same as the Mk2 1.3) in the stock E30 position with modded plenum.
The clearance between the end of the M/C and intake boot isnt as close as it looks, but this has been modded again since the pic was taken.

Mate, you need to use the search function on the site. There is everything here. You just need to look for it.
It's a bit klunky and takes some getting used to but it does work and you can find all this stuff. Take a look at my "325i restoration - the long way round" thread in this section. Most of what you need has been covered on there.

honestly i have searched this site for days now the search seems to bring up most/every posts and if u use more than one key word ur screwed!! i jus thought id start a new thread get sum pics up etc of how my conversion is goin! alot of the threads seem to go off course too sorry to be a pain
No problem. I have the E36 S50 rad for my conversion. I'm retrofitting factory aircon so will be relying upon the aircon cooling fan for the engine cooling. ian332isport has done this on his, as have others and it works.
The engine mounts of choice seem to be E28 M5 items. If you are using the 5 speed gearbox then the E30 m3 propshaft can be used without modification.
If you fit the golf servo you will still need to modify the plenum. That's why I moved mine over to avoid this.
The master cylinder is a 25mm ATE unit from Audi 200 etc. Not very easy to find although there is a guy on ebay that has some. I have his username and email somewhere if you want it.
Good luck and get some pics posted up soon.

the trick is to type in your search terms
for example type 's50 electric fan' and undersneath you must select the radio box "search for all terms" and it will only give you threads that contain ALL of your search words
as the way you have been doing it is it will return ANY thread that contains 'fan' AND ANY thread that contains 'electric' AND ANY thread that contains 's50' which is about 2 million!
hope that helps with your searching

i read on here that standard e36 m3 top and bottom rad hoses work, i dont see why not?
what about one of these master cyls what size du think? or is it just as good to use the audi one?
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... R74-1000RK
have you had yours running then??

Hi, I used the E36 M3 rad which has hole for temp switch which is wired to an E30 M3 electric fan housed on original brackets in front of the rad. I used E36 top and bottom hoses.
Keep an eye on my website www.m3touring.com as I'm updating it at the moment (when I get a spare minute!)and adding more pics.
Good luck !

You need the blanking plate and gasket from the South African spec S50. The part number for the plate is 11 72 1 402 416 referred to as a 'cover lid' in the ETK. (key no. 16) The emmissions air pump gets binned.what did you guys do about the air pump on the bottom left next to the air con compressor

The gasket is 11721318467. (key no. 17) You will also need a different 880mm belt if you are retaining the A/C, part number 11 28 1 402 334. If you're not retaining the A/C then no belt required
Where are those pics???
yeh thought it might i have seen that blanking plate when lookin through etk at work ill order that on tues no doubt it will be a ag order tho but ill stick it on a vor!!
i dont know if you will be able to answer this just from a discription but there are two hoses im a bit unsure about where they are goin to go just had a look tonite, they are inlet side one is a Y formation mainly rubber and is towads the middle of the engine just by the engine mount arm towards the back, goes downwards and is thin and the other one is a black thin diameter metal pipe goin to a rubber hose thats just infront of the arm all the inlet and things round that area are plugged in. if not ill look them up on tue to give a better discription.
i still cant get over your restoration thats awesome

Find the "M50 developments thread" = all 28 odd pages of it! It'll be a few pages back in the technical help section. (or engine swaps section, can't remember) The answer is there.
yup, E30 M3 prop fits straight on between the E36 5 Speed box and the E30 M3 Diff. You do need the larger Guibo and associated bolts.
On the sump you can drill, tap and fit the nipple from the S50 sump or do what JMC330 and I did and braize it to the dipstick tube.

also what gearbox cross member have you used? the e36 box didnt come with one so before i get one to try?
the m3 prop will be here this week and alot of other bits ive ordered!

The E30 M3 diff is externally identical to the 325i diff, so the prop will fit just fine. You do really need the M3 ratio though, so you had best keep your eye out for one.gazatron wrote:just read ther that the e30 m3 prop fits between the e36 5 speed and a e30 m3 diff? i have a 325 sport lsd so im i shoppin for a new diff?

I tend not to give out generic conversion charts. BMW made too many small changes between models/years that you risk having problems if you use someone elses wiring chart.gazatron wrote:IAN332 could i be very cheeky and get you to email me me the wiring sheet you have to connect the e36 engine loom to the e30 internal loom through the c101 reading previous posts u are the guy to ask.

If you can let me know the wire colour/pin numbers in the S50 engine connector, and the same for the E30 body connector, I'll do you a chart. I probably do have a suitable wiring chart for that engine car combo, but like to check first. I think I've had a 100% sucess rate so far
Ian.

actually i think you got those backwards. a yellow/black is different than a black/yellow. x20 pin 15 green/black should be black(predominant color) / green (color of stripe.) just trying to help.
looks similar to my 98 wiring, but you have some additional wires.
cheers, jason
