Has anyone done this into an E30?
Recently saw a Corrado witht he 150bhp TDi lump in and thought switching in the 2.0 diesel from and modern 3 series would be a bit different.
Bet the electrics area minefield though

The engine electrics on a diesel are a bit more basic .bernard wrote:Has anyone done this into an E30?

There is not a coil or distributor pack like a petrol, just heater plugs.
im recon the engine from an e39 diesel would fit with some minor mods, possibly would work like the m50 and e36 mounts used....

The older mechanical-fuel-pump engines are pretty basic but the newer common rail stuff are loaded with electronics.

I'm going to do a 330 by the end of the year. Once I find a good tourer for it to go into.
I guess this hasn't been done yet? I certainly haven't seen or heard one mentioned.

the new diesels will be costly and complicated. fun though.
how about the 325 / 525 tds lump? 2.5 m20 based turbodiesel afaik.

steady on max, remember what happened last time we got talking about diesel and e30`s
dont forget the weight penalty involved in fitting diesel engines.the four banger might not be too bad when compared to an m20 but i doubt the 3 litre is a lightweight.wouldnt mind a 320d msport e30 though, think that engine can make 190bhp iirc.dont know a torque figure but itll be big and mpg would be cool in an e30

Saw something in - I think - Total BMW a few months ago, mentioning a Hartge chip for the 320d.
This put it up to (iirc) 190bhp, and 288 lb/ft torque...
20 bhp and 127 lb/ft torque more than a 325 as standard

Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

Heh.
BMW have a new 2.0 derv swiller which produces just over 200bhp and 300lbft.
That's 100bhp per litre in a 4 cylinder diesel ffs. The could actually fit it to the X5 now!
