Quick question for the m30 owners, what are you using for a header tank and where are you locating it? Pictures would be much appreciated.
cheers in advance

Think a lot of people have used the m30 one situated on the passenger side but one from a 320td also works.
Do a search to confirm this mate as i,d hate to put you on the wrong track.

I've just kept my standard 325 tank on the passenger side, I think most have done this. Not the best of photo's but it gives you the idea
Have you been on www.e30.de ?

Sorry to but in, Toby had one of these fitted, i think it was a tight fit, drop him a PM.johnl320 wrote: It looks like you have quite a bit of room to fit 5,7 series one on the bulkhead did you try this at all.
The M20 header is fine, when you are bleading the cooling system raise the tank up to help get rid of the air.

I decided against the bulkhead one as I've fitted the plastic bulkhead wiring loom cover from a 318i, so when it's finished it'll hopefully look like a factory fit.

I think I'll be using the 325i unit, doesn't bother me having to lift it every now and again when I have to get air out. Has anyone had any problems using the 325i unit (apart from when its not bled properly)?
Although in terms of working you'd think that using the e34 unit at the back would be better because that would place it above the water pump.
Just a thought but I wonder if the e34 unit would fit were the battery would normally be? Before I get the 325i bottle I might have a play around with this when I get to that stage.
Will probably look horrible but you never know...
Cheers Matt

do you guys mean like this?

it does just fit there, and is certainly a good spot from the bleeding point of view. however i found the bonnet clouted it every time it was shut. i can't see a way around it either, as my engine is as low as it can be without touching the rack/crossmember...
looked nice and factory though

Thats the way toby.. what was hitting the bonnet? The lid? or the bonnet hitting the actual tank?

the rear re-inforcing beam thing on the underside of the bonnet hitting the cap. surprisingly enough there are mounts on the firewall that line up with those in the reservoir. as i remember, it was ok if the res was just rested in position (it didn't move around much), but when solid mounted the bonnet wouldn't shut at all.

Toby I remember you saying it wouldn't fit there in a previous thread. It would've been great! as you say it looks very factory.Toby_Unna wrote: do you guys mean like this?
Thats a good point. I was going to put the washer bottle in there, but it would be easier to make up some brackets for the 325i bottle, sit that there and then make a custom fibreglass water container to fit somewhere else. Having it there should make it just higher than the waterpump I'd think. Will have to have a look tomorrowgareth wrote: the E30 one should go in the battery tray farly well. i've always thoght they look very lonely with no battery in there!!!

I just checked the overflow bottle on my 325i and the outlet is too low down to get it to be higher than the waterpump...

for the washer bottle, i used a suzuki vitara one (after lots of ramdom rummaging around the scap yard!!!)
it sits on a very simple flat aluminium bracket on the redundant AFM bracket. i also cut a hole in the side to use the bmw level sender

Its a bit of a cow, but unclip it and leave a 5l bottle of oil or something like that, occy strap it to the car and bleed it that way. done 2 like that. OR... jack the pax front up. that helps a bit.mybmw6 wrote:I just checked the overflow bottle on my 325i and the outlet is too low down to get it to be higher than the waterpump...

Sorry, I meant the overflow bottle outlet is too low down, so that when its where the battery should be it would still need to be removed and bleed as you've described.oze30 wrote:Its a bit of a cow, but unclip it and leave a 5l bottle of oil or something like that, occy strap it to the car and bleed it that way. done 2 like that.
