Having a small pile of ecu's on the shelf in the garage I have absolutely no Idea which one is for the M30. Lump and ecu came out of a E reg 735i auto. Can anyone help with this slight cock up on my behalf and supply the last three digits for the right one.

cheers

it should be the one with a yellow label.

I have 3 in the garage, 2 new and 1 old. H reg is yellow.. the other later models are red/brown?? (Colour blind!)

'87 was a changeover year, just to complicate things a little!
87-88 should be 0261200150
84-87 should be 0261200061

179 is '89 on, and OP says 'E' reg, so I doubt it.

A 179 (Motronic 1.3) ECU can be used as a direct plug & play swop for the earlier 150 (Motronic 1.1) ECU I've discovered; the 179 is far easier to chip, being a single-PCB unit :P

Any performance gains from using the newer ecu in standard form, smoothness, economy, power, etc?

Yes, Motronic 1.3 has better resolution (more memory map locations), and is at least on my E34 535i, smoother running than the old Superchipped 150 ECU that I had (currently have the standard BMW chip in the 179 ECU, though I'll soon be trying a BBR chip)...

Cool. If you can't find one there, I've had a couple of 179's off E-bay for around £20 a throw.
