how easy? i have a full compliment of tools etc, and have worked on bmws before, but is it a loom out job? btw its a 316 touring! also, are the brakes the same as a 2.5?

You're OK with the suspension and brakes if it's a touring. Only mod needed is to fit 6 pot front springs because of the extra weight up front.
Only loom to change is the engine loom, which plugs straight in. Don't even remove the looms from their respective engines - take them out and swap them over complete with wiring.
You'll need the gearbox with the engine, plus the propshaft, and a diff change would be advisable as well, as the 316 touring diff will have too high a ratio, and is a weaker design.

can you explain that a bit better for me please??? on the one hand your saying dont remove the looms but then on the other your saying take them out

Don't remove the looms from the engine. Remove the ECU from under the dash on the driver's side, and feed its plug and loom back through the bulkhead into the engine compartment. Unplug the large round connector beside the fusebox, seperate the fusebox live feed from the main and ECU feeds on the battery+ terminal (seperate the three wires), and disconnect the engine loom earth wire from the RH suspension turret, and the whole engine loom can stay on its respective engine.
