E46 318 doner?

Dad(hes 83)turned up for Christmas with a very smart(for an E46) 318i. Looking around under the bonnet it looks much like an m42 318is motor. Has anyone put one in an E30?Looks like it would make a good project for our 316 touring...Any thoughts,gearbox..coil pack...engine wireing..exhaust..ecu issues...

All that trouble of an engine swap for a 318i engine? 
M50/52 would be miles better and probably easier due to more people having done it and you could ask for advice.
