Been done a few times on here actually, not as potent as you may think.bmwonly wrote:coz i wanna keep it E30. and its different. and it'llbe a shit load cheaper
I'd go for the 2.8 engine as is, 24v, 240/250bhp poss too, you won't get that outta a m20 with spending £6/7k+
Or fit a turbo, but then again I am biased

Considering the costs involved with the m50.. manifold work, gearbox, diff, prop, you'd be better off with the (cost wise) 2.8i reckon.. or a 3.5!fozzymonster wrote:Been done a few times on here actually, not as potent as you may think.bmwonly wrote:coz i wanna keep it E30. and its different. and it'llbe a shit load cheaper

325i or Eta block. 2.8 crank with a collar made up. Standard M52 crank bolt shortened by 2mm. 320i/Eta rods and late (short skirt) 325i pistons. Then just screw it together, no other machining needed.
As for power, it will always give a bit more power and torque than a comparable 2.7. It's a nicer conversion because you don't need to skim the block or piss about with vernier cam pulleys. A new crank with shells from BMW is about £540+vat but a shagged short engine with bore wear or stripped threads a lot less.
Cranks are exchange so you'd give BMW your old 325i crank back
. Most dealers will give 10% off this making a lovely new crank with shells £571. Not bad!
