Bbtb, 6 branch exhaust and as you say a chip.Wont get all of them for your £500 but any of them should give you a slight increase. Not really up on cams but someone will point you in right direction.

for £500 i'd
spend it on brakes and susp instead- get the running gear upto scratch before you add any more power

£500 to improve the cars power, I personally think thats the wrong direction to head in. £/BHP ratio isn't fantastic on the M20's.
As Neil /\ said chassis upgrades would be a better bet. Brakes (grooved front discs, fast road pads and braided lines) and a short shift kit will make the car loads quicker point to point than 10hp imo.
You should have enough in your budget to go for one of Ant's chips. Best value for money mod that you can do to the 325.
I have done all that i have suggested and the car is great fun to drive on the backroads, tho my car is lowered too.

Sorry Ant is the guy that makes the zone chips, really worth doing.
Other things that are worth doing are big bore throttle body (bbtb) and the btb manifold that the zone shop sells. I think unless you want to throw serious money at the car, it's all about optimising the basic power the car has.

If I had £500 to spend on my 316i I would spend it on:
Powerflex bushes, upgrade brakes, lower it and 2 new front tyers and allso replace the shocks in front from oil to gas.
Thats me

Way I always look at car modding is
1. Make it stop.
2. Make it handle.
3. Make it GO!
