M30 conversion guys - I am interested to know what temp yours runs at.
Mine runs a touch under halfway on the highways and dead on halfway around town.

That's where it should be! The reduction in temp when in town suggests a slightly leaking thermostat, but nothing to worry about.
What are the three red LEDS on your service indicator LED display??

Thanks Brian, I just wanted to make sure it wasnt running too hot. The LED's are just the oil service due lights - I havent got around to resetting them.

It's the THREE red LEDs that are intriguing me. UK E30s only have one yellow and one red LED after the green ones. Do the red LEDs come on in sequence or all together?

Mine runs just above the 1/4 mark when it's above 30mph and it will only go to just below 1/2 way mark in traffic, it won't go higher because i've set the fan switching on point at 97c.

Is your ambient temp fairly high ?

Theres plenty of tweaks you can do assuming every things working OK. You can get three different stat ratings from the US market and BMW also do a 10% smaller water pump pulley for hotter climates.

The red LED's come on in sequence - so I suppose with all four glowing it is saying I REALLY NEED A SERVICE!!!

My wifes E36 runs at the 1/4 mark that is why I posted this querie. Ambient temp is high 20 degrees C at the moment.

I've posted this many times! The E30 temp gauge is not a linear scale - the centre section is expanded and only covers a few degrees. As long as the needle is away from the blue and away from the red there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about.
More important is that it doesn't vary too much between idling, running in traffic and giving it some right welly, or that it doesn't suddenly start running with the needle in a different place for no apparent reason.
