done one already dude
good gains, easy see off a 325i with it, not 2.7 quick but only 6psi, not that juicy and above all fun
with an intercooler the setup would see a safe 10-12psi on stock C/R
Costs, well how much can you DIY ? Turbo and Manifold are the biggest outlay, with management next on the list, thats £1500 there already
Tylerma's conversion as above, cost £1600 total, but the turbo was donated by Toby Unna FOC (
) and I made the manifold for free, as an R+D exercise
Food for thought ?

Malc's car is super smooth too. very impressive stuff.
Ant has done some mighty fine work on the conversion.

I'd budget in the region of 3-4k complete, depending on spec. I'd say 3k is easily done on a intercooler, mani, turbo, downpipe/system, boost pipes and of course MS.
However as with everything you'll no doubt find other things that ain't broke to change
, i.e headbolts, h/g/decomp plate, better discs and pads, getting Ant to add various features to MS lol... i would have thought if you can set yourself a 4k budget then you could have a properly sorted, reliable conversion and perhaps some change

the CR on the M40 is 9:1 so you can do the 10 or so Psi without having to touch the engine internals dude
obviously the engine needs to be in sound condition from the outset , but it can be done
Malcs has not had one issue with relaibility, starts fine, drives sweet, barely creeps up above 1/2 temp even in central london traffic, still returns almost 30 mpg to dude
can you fit the parts yourself M8 ? I have a spare set of head flanges and T3 flanges to suit the M40 on the shelf in the unit, indeed I have a concrete filled spare head to make manifolds up on if you're serious ?
for downpipe the volvo 940 downpipe from ECP can be easily modded to suit this application
under 50 sheets too, bonus
you need the MS, and a set of M30 yellow injectors to make this work, the rest is nuts and bolts
