Hi guys
Went to put my engine mounting brackets onto my engine today and am a bit puzzled about the inlet side one. It has four large holes in it but there are only 3 smaller diameter bolts to mount it :? Not too worried about the fourth hole but am a bit concerned that the bolts are too small for the size of the holes!
Can anyone please advise on what you did about this?
Cheers Spadge..

Hi Spadge.

I used those mounts and had the same puzzle!

I put my bolts in with the brackets as high up the engine block a possible (I mean so the bottom of the hole in the bracket was against the bolt, if you see what I mean!).
That way it can't slip down with the weight of the engine and the engine sits a couple of milimeters lower (centre of gravity and all that! as well as bonnet clearance) - but be careful the sump doesn't rest on the steering rack though - mine doesn't, I used brand new standard mounts.

Hope that helps dude!

I think they are over sized to give a little adjustability to the engine postion ?

I noticed the bolts are thicker on one side than the other, i guess theres more twisting force from the engine on one side ?

I'd check the bolt sizes for you but i've just formatted my H/D and i haven't got the ETK intalled yet

Cheers for your help fella's
If yours are the same then i feel a little better about using them :)
I'm going to have to use a couple of shorter bolts on that side also as the originals are too long and i guess new bolts would be a good idea anyway!
Steadily making progress now and the car should be done just in time for the snow 8)

No probs!

Now I think about it I'm sure I used (new) shorter bolts too.

Are you bashing the bulkhead and going for position 3 (the furthest back) ?

Yes mate position 3 so i can use the E34 rad. No bulkhead bashing yet mate but i have removed all the soundproofing stuff. I'll offer the engine up next week and see what 'adjustments' need to be made and go from there.

once the lump was in there and on its mounts, i found that i needed to loosen the bolts and jiggle things about a bit to get clearance. the engine can be moved around a lot in all directions.

might be worth getting some uprated mounting rubbers while you're at it... mine have sagged about 3mm since january. well, maybe more than 3mm but that's all the gap i had before i hit the rack! i now need to readjust things for clearance again! that said, mine is tight as i have the auto TPS on there still which is taller than a manual one
