I had a set of corner weight scales the other day, so I decided to slide the S50 onto it, and check some weights. Now I have seen all of the various weights posted on certain websites, supposedley for "undressed" engines, so I was expecting mine to be a little heavier. But the results did surprise me. If anyone else has physically weighed any other BMW engine,(as opposed to dragging the numbers off the interweb) then do post them up please.Weights given are for a 1998 Euro S50B32/6 speed manual:

complete engine, including loom and computer less flywheel, clutch, air cond. pump and bracket, air pump, starter, power steering pump and reservoir, exhaust manifolds, viscous coupling and fan. 190kgs

flywheel and clutch 17kgs
power steering pump and reservoir 3.3kgs
starter 3.3kgs
exh manifolds 6.6kgs
air pump 4.1kgs
air cond pump 6.2kgs
air cond bracket 1.5kgs
fan and viscous 1.7kgs
total weight 233.7kgs
6 speed gearbox 47kgs

which leads me to wonder where these figures of 152kgs for the engine come from, it must be for a "bare bones" long block, as fully dressed this engine is no lightweight!

Hehe, me and a mate picked up my M20B25 no probs, although it was largely undressed.

It took 4 of us to not lift my S50B32 which was fully dressed.

They're such a lump!

We lifted one in and out of a peugeot van, then dragged it 1/4 mile before the wheels on the dolly gave in.

I swore.

A lot.

blimey. fwiw as you suggested the 154kgs is the weight on the ETK for a bare recond engine, no ancilliaries.
