Right finally dropped the engine/box in the bay but seem to have an issue..

Engine is on the skew in the bay, and seems to be to far over to the right..

Using the engine mounts i was supplied when i 1st bought all this stuff Part No. 11 81 1 128 932

Seem to have a weird thought i was supposed to swap the alloy engine arms over ie left to right and visa versa..

But its in at least!!! :D :D

Dan,

You actually have a pair of passengers side E28 M5 mounts. The drivers side should be 11 81 2 225 201. Saying that, they are the same physical height, so it should not change the position of the engine. Mind you, the studs are offset, so it's possible you have them installed in such a way that it pushes the engine across a bit.

You don't need to swap engine mounting arms. They should be exaclty as they were on the S50.

Are you basing you thinking on the fact that the gearbox is very close to the right hand side of the tunnel. This is actually normal, and won't cause you any problems. You will find the gearbox output flange is in the centre.

Cheers,

Ian.

ok.. not been able to get the drivers side one on yet..

how should the passenger side one be placed? i have it with the stud goin through the round hole and the 'knob' sitting in the elongated hole..

gearbox output flange isnt central atm, engine is crooked slighty, tho it looks straight in the bay

should you be able to fit the manifolds between the head and the side of the bay with the engine in situ?

Lower studs should be in the outer set of subframe holes (both sides). You may need to grind off the little locating tab to get the mount to sit correctly.

I've never actually tried to remove the manifolds myself, but they were modified and fitted while the engine was in the bay. It's possible that they lifted the engine slightly, but I can't say for sure.

right well prob the wrong way round then.. might just need some persuadin to go in.. Its fucking heavy tho, dropping it in was fun (engine and box together  )

Need to get up and sort it tomorrow, and get you the correct wire colours/positions!!

Only till the 24th to get it running so i can get back to uni!! 8O

Picked up the centre section this eve!! Its monsterously heavy for its size

Btw - cam timing was out.. Engine doesnt seem to like bein turned the wrong way :? Seems a little odd but turns over fine by hand now - When you turn it the wrong way the cams dont turn so the ratchet noise was the chain jumping or summat (awaits worrying reply   )

Godo lad Johnno! Keep me posted... Collant pipes, servo mods, which prop, exhaust mods and electrics being paramount (not much then!)

I have a week to do this conversion once I start (well the majority of it) so I need to collect all the info/parts before I set off to a mates workshop. He's offered to come pick me up and help me get the engine in. (probably barring the manifold mods) cos he works in a nice garage and his boss doesn't mind.

Not inconceivable eh? Err....
