I thought I would pass this on as it is good information from a guy who knows what he is talking about. I put it in this section because most of the M30 guys hang here.

Thats the trouble with the M30 inlet, it's all to close to the exhaust manifold.and ceramically coated.

I'm (eventually) moving the whole inlet to the cold side of the engine and using a filter box that will pick up only cold air from behind the head lights, could be tricky fitting in an AFM though for people who like using antiques.
I'm going to use this twin 60mm TB with and M30 air filter box

Thats handy to know because i thought my manifolds might be a weak point on my engine with a 284/280 cam and head work.Dont bother with extractors unless you are increasing the cam timing to at
>least 290 degrees
If you can ask him his opinion on an E30 M3/E34 M5 style X-pipe fitted to an M30 exhaust as it's some thing i'd like to try on mine.
How is your swap going ?

This got me thinking.........> The group A 635s (alpina) engines used the E34 cast 3 into 1 manifolds

....... i just went out side to eye my manifolds up against a new gasket and found a bit of a flat lip of 1-2mm on some ports so i'm going to grind it off this week end, every little bit helps especially as it doesn't cost any thing to do and it's all apart at the moment any way.
The head exhaust ports are fine as they were gasket matched when the head was ported.

Grind them out to at least 2mm larger than the head port, this creates an anti-reversionary effect that helps with extraction flow. For a better explanation go to metric mechanics website and go to the exhaust section - www.metricmechanic.com I have made my exhaust system to their systems specs. This got me thinking.........

My conversion is almost there - will be posting an update this weekend.
cheers

Andy, im using an M3 centre section with one of these X pipes but as i have never tried it without i cant really tell you what the difference would be! Mine works fine though and ive heard that they increase torque.
