Will get some piccies up later but Me & Jon_bmw just had the beast started...we started on the setup first thing Sataurday, went through Sunday with missing the footy :( then left it till tonight and finished all the fitting, bleeding and finaly started it up...not a bad idle at all which was nice considering im on 3.5injectors with the speak & spell powered Motronic telling it what to do..lol...

I got to fit a exaust bracket to take the strain of the downpipe on Thursday, tis on order from the stealers then were wrap a few hoses up to stop em from frying then its drive time!.. cant wait

Teething problems: one! :) the IC we used sits infront of the Rad and is being pulled inwards now its all connected up and is of the axle stands which inturn is hitting the fan blades stopping the thing from turning...apart from that..starts,no leaks, coolant sorted...all good

The whole setup looks very nice and neat... we took time changing various parts from what come of Jon's old car and made the whole setup look better...Tbh nothing looks out of place..turbo and maifold were painted along with the downpipe so everything is black and silver as i just painted the rocker cover and inlet M not so long ago...

il get some piccies up but not untill its completely finished and tested Friday...

keep yer posted...

Got one question though:

Whats the quickest way to get the oil pressure switch sorted,The oil feed is coming from there so obvioulsy there isnt any switch no more but i got the oil check light constantly illuminated..whats the easiest way to sort that?

Everyone's going Turbo crazy!

Like Ben said, for ages everyone was on about 2.7 builds... then it was 3.5 installs, and now it's all about the forced induction.

What's next?

I think we were both chuffed to bits when it started on the button(as it should  )

I'm totally nackered and keep sleeping in till 12 now, the joys of being a student, jamz doesn't have the same benefit :(

Its going to be one nice quick cab once its all completely finished, really enjoyed putting it all together last night and getting that all important start, shame about the condition of my hands. Cut to buggerery.

I got the misses to tape the england/equador bash, still haven't got round to watching it. Apparently didn't miss much though. I'll have a think about how to mount the oil pressure switch, isn't there a way you can just short it to make it think the pressure is fine?

Did you low comp the engine or still running a standard 325 lump. I ask cause it seems a lot of work to do, if you can only run low boost :(

I was in Dips's cossi and that fcuker is running 20psi and is good for double that when finished. Now that's what you want in a E30 winkeye

Well the switch is knackered.. couldnt get anything on it to unscrew it so i knocked the connector of the bottom so we could get a socket on it :S

We got the Oil-pressure Guage inside the car so we still got our early warning system in place :) but we need to short this circuit so the light doesnt come on in the check light panel as its highly annoying

This can be done right??

Still the standard 325 lump ben(lower compression engine mind). Well I believe that Fozzymonster is running in excess of 15 psi on a standard bottom end and that is good enough for 350bhp. All comes down to money at the end of the day. If you have 10 grand to blow, an m20 engine isn't the best choice really is it.

Its a fair amount of work, but if we did it in a weekend and 1 evening, thats not that bad in my book.

Well Earth the oil pressure connector to the bodywork apparently will solve the check light problem...my exaust bracket arrives tomoz so fitting will commence tomoz after work then the pesky IC problem, seems like we might have to backtrack a bit to solve that..

Could be one of the problems of postioning while on front axle stands i guess...incidently the IC we i have is just above the oil cooler but i havent bothered to cut out the valance to give it maximum airflow as were only pushing 7psi so its not needed, looks like it will get quite a bit from the oil cooler vent and obviously from above by the grill..is it direct airflow to these thats needed to work in an optimum state or just ambient cold air around it??

Direct or directed flow is the most efficient way M8, duct air from the rad area by modding the cowling on the grille side of the rad

HTH

Looking forward to the 1st drive installment  boost junkie status awaits

Well the bottom of the cowling isnt there anymore anyway as that had to be chopped to make way for the IC so it will get alot of Airflow around it thats for sure both top and bottom, not completely directed but should be more than enough hopefully

Little update if anyones intrested...

fitted exaust bracket today and made alot of difference but more inportantly moved the downpipe away from the sterring UJ which was a relief... changed a few charge pipes and used a few cable ties on em which moved the IC enough to stop any fan blades hitting the hoses, not sure how long the ties will last but i can use something a bit more sturdy later..

Put joint sealer round most pipe joints just incase and to stop any might be drips once the oil thins out a bit on the trial runs.

Oil check light has mysterioulsy gone out..havent touched it and the connector is just hanging in the wind (sort off :P)... not arguing though, saves a job :)

THINGS TO DO TOMOZ:

Wrap downpipe, some hoses with exaust wrap or something similiar, going to add a bit of ducting behind the grill and direct it to the IC so to give it a bit more free air...get Jon's rims on for the test runs as im sitting on wheels that arnt balanced or have spiggot rings and are knocking on the hubs where there not centered..prolly not a good idea to do turbo test runs with them on :? ...the its TEST time...looking forward to that!

4 words..

F*k me its quick! .. Jon was very surprised too as he was used to it in an AUTO... Only done a lil run....everything seems fine, no hose popping,no strange noises apart from the turbo spinning up which sounds shweet as i got no roof  ... need to do a longer run when my new rims get sorted as the wheels ive borrowed are a No No...

Found a few minor leaks coming from the oil feed restrictor..tightend it up some more hopefully its sorted now..were wait and see

Thks to Jon for the Help fitting...bit of a long slog but worth it in the end..even his old man came up today and lent a hand...nice

once the new rims are on,il take some piccies

Bloody hell, can't believe how much quicker it is connected to an manual box! Its sounds out of this world too with the turbo spooling, makes an awesome noise.

Was a hard old slog, im going to let my hands recover for a week I think.

Was good to finally get the test drive today, definatly a capable car, would show an m3 a clean set of heels!

Typically there was a crash on the m27 carl and we had to drive past some coppers with the bmw!

The old man was useful for driving the car home, and several other things to be fair, he still wants to be a teenager! lol

Don't you mean what a state we were, don't think we'd even started on the sump at that point! :o

Back on topic it idles bloody well, well much better than mine. No pinking either on standard 95 ron at 7 psi. With 98 ron it may be possible to run more boost but 7 psi is enough for now I think

What a cool machine, first e30 cab turbo on the zone??
