newb with questions

Hey guys i got an 86 325 with an eta motor, 5 speed. How come most of the turbocharged e30's here are the i engine? Is there something weak about the eta that keeps it from running any boost? Anyway, i got a shop, so most of the turbo stuff is possible, except the electronics. What's a megasquirt? Is it a ecu of some kind? What does it do? Any help would be appreciated. If this thread is in the wrong forum i appologize.

Megasquirt is a replacement fuel injection system written by enthusiasts.
