How much of the M42 car would you think I would need to swap in?

Cheers,
Chris

hi chris, not that much! the m40 is the same block, so the m42 will drop straight in. your gearbox, prop, diff etc are all fine, just swap engine and electrics. lots of electrical bits are shared too though, but best just to swap these over. shoudln't be very tricky to do at all really.

motor mounts? i heard that the m40 ones will cause the m42 to sit too low and something fouls on the steering rack.

might be hearsay, but best to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the replies - if I don't end up selling the M42, I just think it would be a laugh to stick it in a touring.

Cheers,
Chris

Tim its not that simple, the M42 sits closer to the firewall and thus needs its own Gearbox and prop and exhaust. (engine mounts also)

And will the prop swap over to a touring?

Think I've answered my own question - the wheelbase & overall lengths are identical, so I'm presuming prop & exhaust will transplant directly.

oops!
lol, didn't know that! apologies for the BS info!
must admit i thought the g/b was the same, thought i'd looked up the part nos for someone a little while back? and can you not shorten the m40 prop on the collar to fit?
its a shame the m40 doesn't sit as far back and close to the firewall, that's one of the things i really like about the m42, that its tucked right back in the engine bay.

the engine mounts are round on the M42 and are quite a bit bulkier whereas the m40 ones are trapesiums and not anywhere as big or tall however it can be done. If you want a hand give me a shout I'm only down the road
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

Cheers Bob, but the next bloke in the queue collected the engine this morning!

I was sort of hoping it wouldn;t sell so I could make the "318is Touring". Ah well.

I'll check those bits you mentioned in this afternoon.

You can make a 318is touring just use all the IS parts
Here is mine, its needs dropping at the front but other than that is pretty good, I fancy a S14 E30 touring winkeye
